Mountain View Weekly Update
January 20
Semester 2 Schedule - A Message from Mrs. Toth
Announcements & Updates
- As has been communicated to students, the morning Lions' Den is reserved for those completing school work; it is not a space to socialize or escape the cold. Those who arrive without work will be asked to leave and wait outside their grade level doors. Thank you in advance for reinforcing this expectation with your child as we work to keep the space quiet and productive for those students using it for its intended purpose.
- 8th grade reminders:
- The CLASS OF 2023 DIPLOMA FORM is due today.
WMMHS will be hosting an Open House for incoming Freshmen on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at 6:30 pm. The Open House offers prospective students the opportunity to see and learn about the elective areas (art, music, tech, business, etc) offered at WMMHS. From subject supervisors, students will also be given the opportunity to learn about the differences between Hon/AV/AC levels of classes offered. Students will be able to sign up for sports and activities with the coaches and advisors in person at the Open House as well.
- The second payment for the trip to Gettysburg/Hershey, in the amount of $159.00, is due by January 27. Please refer to Mrs. Toth's November 7 communication for additional information.
- All Spring sports physicals (Baseball, Softball, G/B LAX) and related paperwork are due by Wednesday, March 1 to be cleared by Dr. Porter the week of March 6. Please refer to the Student Athlete Information page for instructions and links to all forms. Tryouts are scheduled to begin the week of March 20. Please note that a sports physical submitted for a fall or winter sport may have expired. If you are unsure, please reach out to Mrs. Austenberg. If the ‘Sign Off Sheets’ have already been turned in for a prior season, there is no need to resubmit these.
- New to Mountain View sports? Please click here to review the Athletic Code of Conduct, pay-to-play fees, and more. Note that students will also attend an interest meeting with their respective coach where specific information regarding practices and other expectations will be shared.
A note from Ms. Walsh
Happy Friday Mountain View! I hope everyone had a great week. Next week marks the beginning of the third marking period which is a great time to review the Start-Stop-Continue goals we made in our last Advisory lesson and think about which ones we can apply to our classes to start the new marking period off on a positive note! This week, I have a few things to share with you all. In previous weekly updates, I have shared with you some tips and tricks from one of my favorite blogs to help to implement tech and social media rules at home. Screenagers shared with me a great follow-up this week: how to respond to broken tech rules. Check out the linked article for suggestions of consequences, and also conversation starters for your kids to gauge what they believe appropriate consequences could be.
Additionally, I wanted to bring to your attention a popular Netflix show that many students may be viewing. Ginny and Georgia may present as a show similar to Gilmore Girls, but some topics covered are more sensitive and mature than some viewers may be able to handle. Check out this Common Sense Media link to check out some parent reviews. Common Sense Media also provides suggestions of topics to discuss with your kids if you are comfortable with them viewing the content. I highly recommend Common Sense Media as a resource when determining what movies, shows, books, podcasts, games, and apps are appropriate for certain age levels.
Looking ahead, next Friday we will be working on making posters to kick off our collection for CASA care kits. Each grade level will learn about the items that they are assigned to collect and make posters to promote the collection. Have a great weekend!
