February 2024

From the Principal
I can not believe we are already into our second month of 2024! I want to thank everyone for their continued support of our Mustangs, our staff, and our school. We are off to a great start to the second half of the school year!
We finished last month celebrating Literacy Week. Mrs. Prince, our literacy committee, and staff planned some fun events for our students. We appreciate everyone who found the time and drive to participate. Congratulations to our Mustangs who make their AR Goal! We have been recognizing the students who have met their goal with brag tags and tasty treats. We look forward to more students meeting their goal as the year goes on.
Looking forward, students in grades 3-5 are preparing for this year’s Florida Assessment of Student Thinking. Our students will be tested in English language arts & math while our 5th graders will be tested additionally in science. We will share more information closer to testing dates. As in the past, we will ask our students to Do Their Best as we do each and every day.
Please review our dress code. All students should be wearing athletic shoes or shoes approved per CTE’s dress code. Students are at recess and PE every day. As per our school’s student handbook: “A student’s dress and appearance should not cause disruption, distract from the educational process, or create a health or safety concern for themselves or others.”
Last but not least, there is no school on Thursday, February 8th and Friday, February 9th. Enjoy your extended weekend by spending time with your family.
Sincerely,
Mr. Rick Kogelschatz
Principal

Lost & Found
We have many jackets, sweaters, water bottles and lunch boxes that are in the lost and found, on the cafeteria stage.
Cold weather is here and students will need their jackets and sweaters! Please make sure you write your child's name on the inside of their jackets, sweaters, and lunchboxes.
New School App
From work, to home, to school, our phones are a key tool to navigate and communicate throughout
the day. The custom-built School Board of Highlands County app makes it easy to stay up to date
with district news and events.
Now, School Board of Highlands County is making it easier to stay in touch with teachers and class
information from that same app. Using the School Board of Highlands County app you can easily
switch from district and school information to Rooms, where you can see your student's classes
and engage directly with teachers. Rooms can be accessed via the web and from our district app,
which is available for free and can be used from both Apple and Android phones. To access
Rooms, you will need to create a login and password.
- One app for everything School Board of Highlands County
- Easily see class specific announcements
- Message teachers directly
Download the app, and look for your personalized invitation to begin using the "Rooms" feature in our app in early November.
