Chapel
Board member Mr. Bob Schauf spoke at our chapel this week. He started by sharing some of his testimony. He grew up attending church and reading the Bible, but he felt like the fear and judgment of the Lord were emphasized more than God's grace and love.
When Mr. Schauf was 18 years old, he was in a horrible accident. The other three passengers died, but God spared his life. This was a pivotal moment in his walk with the Lord. After Mr. Schauf was married and had his first child, John 3:16 was shared at a Bible study he attended. This verse helped him realize that he could do nothing to earn God's love. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."
Mr. Schauf then shared an acronym that he uses when praying, ACTS.
A = Adoration
C = Confession
T = Thanksgiving
S = Supplication
He ended with Philippians 4:4-7, "Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
At our next chapel on January 30, Pastor John Miels from St. Paul Lutheran will be our chapel speaker. Chapel is at 10:30 a.m. every Tuesday at the dome (next to the main building). You are invited to join us!

Bible Class
The second half of Ezekiel, chapters 25-48, contains several very confusing sections of
Scripture. Scholars disagree on their interpretation, and faithful students of the Word have long been perplexed.
First, contrary to the understanding of centuries of Christian scholarship, some contemporary preachers teach that the judgment against Tyre is actually a hidden narrative of Satan’s fall.
Additionally, the identities of Gog and Magog have long been argued over.
Most confusing of all, the temple vision prophesies the return of God’s glory to dwell among his
people—and animal sacrifice. Scholars disagree. Is this a literal prophecy? A figurative
prophecy? A little of both?
We will approach this week’s readings with humble and teachable spirits, reading Scripture in the light of the rest of Scripture. You can share with your students that God sometimes reveals a part of his plan, while leaving the details shrouded in mystery. Essentially, we can consider ourselves on a need-to-know basis.
--From Bible RoadTrip Curriculum
Students are memorizing the following verses for the first week:
K-3 Students - Ephesians 2:8-9
4-5 Students -Ephesians 2:4-10
6-8 Students - Ephesians 2:1-10
Ezekiel 18:4
Behold, all souls are mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is mine: the soul who sins shall die."
Reading this week included the following:
Ezekiel 25, 34, 37, 40:1-5, 43, 48 - K-3 Students
Ezekiel 25, 27, 33-34, 37-39, 40:1-5, 43-44, 47-48 - 4-5 Students
Ezekiel 25, 27, 29, 31, 33-34, 36-39, 40, 43-44, 46-48 - 6-8 Students
Questions to ponder:
Who was ultimately in charge of the fate of Israel’s neighbors—earthly kings, or the Lord? Why did God judge Ammon, Moab and Seir, Edom, and Philistia? (Ezekiel 25)
-
How were the dead, dry bones brought to life in Ezekiel’s vision? (Ezekiel 37:13-14) Read Ephesians 2:1-10. How are we similar to the dry bones in the valley before we become believers in Jesus Christ and are saved from our sins? How are we resurrected? Where does our new life come from?
Read Ezekiel 10. What happened? What takes place in Ezekiel 43:1-12? What did God say of his return to the temple?
Note: Bible scholars greatly disagree over whether chapters 40-48 are literal or figurative.
