A Look Back at Our Week...
Having Fun with Fundations
Cc - cat - /k/
Oo - octopus - /o/
The children are enjoying our daily work in Fundations! Please be sure to hold your child accountable for proper letter formation. The letter formation guide that was given to you at Back-to-School Night details how to form each letter. Also, please remember to reinforce the idea that we begin forming letters from the top.
Radiant Readers
High Frequency Words: you, can, see
Our Word Wall continues to grow as we add more words each week. We read the stories, He Can and You Can Go! and highlighted our words. We are also learning how to spell our words through song. We even had a little dance party as we learned the songs for 'see' and 'can'. Please be sure to review the words with your children every night.
Shared Reading: This week we read the book, Stars. One of the highlights of our readings was using highlighter tape to highlight the word see. Who knew tape could be so exciting?!?
Interactive Read Alouds: This week we listened to and compared books about families. The children enjoyed a variety of stories including Do Like Kyla and Jonathan and His Mommy. We also spent some time writing about what we like to do with our families. The children worked hard to stretch out some words that were unfamiliar to us using all of our sounds.
Reading Workshop: Our readers continue to grow. We are working hard on how to be storytellers during our independent reading time. The children are also learning different principles through our Reading Workshop mini-lessons. This week the children learned how to use post-its to mark places in a book that they would like to share with their partners. We also learned how to be the best partners by creating a list of important behaviors to follow when sharing ideas with a partner.

Other Highlights From Our Week...
- We celebrated Mrs. P's birthday! Happy birthday, Mrs. P!
- Superhero Day on Tuesday was a great kick-off for all our community service projects we will participate in this year. We watched a Kid-President video and talked about the importance of helping others. We will continue to collect spare change through this Tuesday, so don't forget to send some in if you haven't already!
- We enjoyed the Hip Pickles show on Wednesday! Throughout the show we were reminded of the importance of being kind to others, sharing and being ourselves. It was exciting to see some of our friends (and even our teachers) having a turn to participate in the show! The whole audience even sang "Happy Birthday" to Mrs. P.!
