Beginning January 3, our school will be holding a Byrd's Donuts of Elkins fundraiser.

The cost will be: $12.00 per dozen!!

Students will be provided with an order form for collecting orders and money.

All orders AND money are due to school no later than January 24, 2022.

Donuts will be delivered the week of January 31. Depending on the number of donuts we sell, there will be multiple pickup days.

Funds raised with this sale will benefit our students with continued activities, such as Sweetie, hands on activities, etc.

A sales form is included here, if you would like to begin sales early.

A paper copy will be sent home on January 3.

The class selling the most donuts will receive a donut party!

PTO is sponsoring a Winter Fest on February 2 from 4 - 6 p.m.

The cost will be $5.00. Funds raised will be used for field trips and student activities.

Activities will include a special guest appearance, games, lots of movement activities, and a snack.

Parents will need to pick their children up at 6:00 p.m. in the parent pick up line.

A paper permission form will be sent home so money can be returned with it.

Marcus noticed the flag was still up on an early dismissal day. He had his mom stop and he took the flag down, brought it into the building, and folded it!

Way to go, Marcus!

We had a special visitor this week.................Granny PAX.

Granny visited each classroom and read a story about students being PAX Leaders.

Then she had a special Granny's Wacky Prize for the class....throwing snowballs at her for 30 seconds!!

It was a great activity for our students!

All posters will be judged at county level and then submitted to the State Transportation Manager.

Division #1 - Grades K-2
Division #2 - Grades 3-5
Division #3 - Grade 6-8
Division #4 - Special Education (Grades K- 12)

Division #5 - CAD (Computer Aided Drawing)

Posters are DUE to HES no later than February 21, 2022. We will have a total of 5 posters that we will submit to the WVDE for judging.

The THEME for the 2021-2022 Contest is: 1 Bus + 1 Driver = a BIG Impact on Education

Contestants must illustrate the above theme only. The theme on the poster must be exactly as shown above, to include all punctuation.

POSTER SPECIFICATIONS:

• Designs should be submitted on quality tag, poster illustration board or heavy paper. Construction paper may be used but entries must be mounted on quality tag poster. Lamination is not permitted and will disqualify the poster.
• 
  
• There is no limitation on the use and number of colors.
• 
  
• There is no limitation on the type of media – such as print, crayon, felt pen, etc. -- used on the poster design; however, wood, plastic, glass, or metal should not be part of the poster. Collage materials should not be used. Glued on pieces will disqualify the poster.
• 
  
• Lettering and Drawing: The poster design may incorporate freehand letters only. Stenciled, preprinted, manufactured stick-on or press-on letters or tracings may not be used and will disqualify the poster. Lettering should be clearly legible, even if used as part of the poster design. Cut paper / stencils (freehand or pre-drawn stick-on stencils) are not permitted and will disqualify the poster.
• 
  
• Poster designs may not incorporate any copyrighted materials (i.e., comic and/or television characters), including stock artwork, meaning photographs or other images of common places, landmarks, nature, events, or people; clip art, meaning anything from an existing collection of pictures or images that can be imported from or into the poster; and non-original raster graphics or vector graphics.
• 
  
• Drawings must be original, correct in safety concept and the exclusive work of the student entering the contest in idea, design, and execution. All artworks should be positive in approach, demonstrating only proper school bus safety behaviors. At least a part of a yellow school bus must be present in the poster.
• 
  
• There must be a 3" x 5" card/entry blank securely fastened to the back of the poster which includes the student's name, grade, age, teacher’s name, email address, school name and school address. Please print clearly. Do not place name, school, etc., on the front of the poster. Display information on the back only.

PRIZES

Prizes will be awarded for each division as follows:

1st Place and Overall Winner: $500 check
1st Place Winners of remaining 3 divisions: $250 check 2nd Place Winners of each 4 divisions: $100 check
3rd Place Winners of each 4 divisions: $50 check
1st Place Winner – CAD division: $50 check

Winners will be notified and sent prizes in May 2022.

Our Core Beliefs / Mission

We at HES are dedicated to providing all students with knowledge and skills to become college and career ready in an environment emphasizing the PAX Good Behavior Game, which includes peace, productivity, health and happiness with the core belief “I better my world, and I better myself.”

Our Goal:

Hodgesville Elementary School will have an increase of at least 1.0 GE growth for 40% of our students as based on beginning of the year to end of the year data for 2021 – 2022 end of year assessments for Math and English Language Arts.
