Greetings, James Burd Families,

I hope everyone is doing well and remaining healthy!

We've noticed an increase in student illnesses over the last couple of weeks. If your child is not feeling well or has a fever, please make sure they stay home until they're doing better. If there are absences, make sure you send us a doctor's note. If you have questions about your child returning, feel free to reach out.

February is "Be Kind" Month in SASD. We had some of our students decorate some of our windows with affirmations for our students to remember. A big thank you to Mrs. Kirkpatrick and the students for making this happen for our building. The kids have enjoyed seeing them as they come in and out school and from recess.

Our January PBIS Celebration will take place this Friday. We're going to have a virtual visit from the NED show. Our students will experience the Kindness Adventure presentation. I'm excited to participate in this program with the kids!

We're in the early stages of our middle of the year benchmark testing window. We're looking forward to using this data to help our teachers continue to provide the instruction needed as we move forward this year. I'm excited to see the growth and progress of our students!

Our PTO has organized a Spirit Wear Sale for everyone! Please check out the ordering page from Creative Engraving for more information. Hurry...sale ends on 2/10!

Information will be coming home tomorrow on how to purchase a yearbook for this school year. There will be a QR code to help with the ease of ordering. A yearbook will cost $10.

The PTO will be purchasing one yearbook for our third graders. Thank you for doing that PTO!

The Student Assistance Program (SAP) is a process for identifying students who are experiencing behavior and/or academic difficulties which pose a barrier to their learning and success in schools. SAP offers supports to those students and their families. The core of the SAP team is group of faculty members who have received specialized training from the state of Pennsylvania. One of the most important tasks of the team is to build a partnership with families, focusing on the student's success as their common goal. Participation in this process is voluntary and is completely confidential.

James Burd Elementary utilizes School Dismissal Manager as a method for parents to update their plans for their child's dismissal. By 2:15, we would ask that any changes/updates be completed. We utilize this service to know what you want your child to do at dismissal. Please take time to download the app and establish your default preferences. If you need help, call Mrs. Diehl or Mrs. Pinckney in the office for assistance.

If you have not already, save the district calendar to ensure you're staying up to date with our scheduled days off as well as early dismissal days.
