California Young Reader's Award 2020:
And The Winner Is....
Our school voted for Can I Be Your Dog, but I think we can agree that The Legend of Rock, Paper Scissors was a really good book as well.
Willow Grove's vote:
Our school voted for the story, Can I Be Your Dog? Written by Troy Cummings.
We will see if that book wins all of California as well! I will keep you posted.
In Closing...
This last story will mean something different to each of you.
There's a lot going on in the world right now, and you might be wondering what you can do, how you can help.
Ask yourself these three questions....
When is the best time to do things? Who is the most important one? What is the right thing to do?
Every situation you are in, your answer will be different.
Let these questions guide you as you grow. As the meaning of life rests in the relationships that we form and the way we treat others.
Remember, we are a kind and caring school.

New Online Story from J.K. Rowling
From J.K. Rowling's site:
"The Ickabog will be published for free on this website (link above), in installments, over the next seven weeks, a chapter (or two, or three), at a time. It isn't Harry Potter and it doesn't include magic. This is an entirely different story."
This is a children's book intended for ages 10 and under. J.K. Rowling graciously published this book online for free in light of the COVID 19 pandemic.

What I am reading right now:
With a title like this, I had to read it myself to find out what this book was about.
Here is the synopsis from the back of the book:
"My house has chicken legs. Two or three times a year, without warning, it stands up in the middle of the night and walks away from where we've living."
I would suggest this story for grades 4th and 5th. It is very interesting and unique. If you have read this story, let's chat about it! Check out my Google Classroom (ask your teacher for the code).
