News from District 153
March 30, 2023
ONLY ONE DAY LEFT
Friday, March 31st, is the last day to have your say!
Please take a few minutes to share your opinions and help your schools improve!
Illinois 5 Essentials Parent Survey
Currently two of our three schools--Willow and James Hart--do not have sufficient parent participation (at least 20%) for the state to send us data from the survey. We desperately need all our parents to step up and complete this survey, especially those at Willow and James Hart.

District 153's 5-Year Strategic Plan Survey
The results of this survey will play a big role in determining the direction of our schools over the next five years. The outcome of our strategic planning will be only as good as the input we receive, so we need to hear from all sectors of our school community--not just those with current students.

If your usual voting place is Churchill School, please be advised that all polling for the April 4th elections are being relocated from Churchill to James Hart School. Churchill School will be without power next week.
Congratulations, Panther Musicians!
Kudos to the James Hart Band and Orchestra for earning Division 1 ratings at the Illinois Grade School Music Association contest on March 11! We are #153Proud!
And now for a moment of Zen at Churchill School
Math and language arts were served up with a dose of mental health boosting activities during Churchill School’s Mental Health Awareness Day on March 29th.
"We wanted to highlight the importance of this issue and give the students healthy strategies they could use every day to prioritize their mental health," said Principal Sara Schnoor.
Students came to school in pajamas or other comfy clothing, made stress balls from Play-Doh and balloons, and practiced yoga movement and breathing. Many thanks to Homewood’s Serendipity Yoga for providing the yoga instruction.
Mrs. Means' 4th-graders show off their newly created stress balls.
Students practice deep breathing.

To Get Your Spring Break Off to an Adorable Start
Many thanks to Ms. Rost's students at Willow School for creating this puppet show to remind all of us about the importance of The Willow Way!
This is the time of year when notices about summer camps and other activities start to arrive. We post them all in the Virtual Backpack so don't forget to check it out from time to time.
