From Your Superintendent
Hornet Nation,
With approximately 6 weeks of learning left in our school calendar, it the time of the year when we really are able to see and celebrate academic and social success. Academically, our goal is to have each student gain a year's worth of growth for the year in school. Socially, we hope that each student made gains around self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.
Last week, I joined a spontaneous celebration with a class of third graders who had just learned that they all met or exceeded their growth goals on the NWEA-MAP assessment. I also did the cupid shuffle in P.E. with younger students who happily had no problems dancing in front of others.
In our middle school, I visit lunchtime fairly regularly. Using my experience as a middle school principal, the social skills I see our 6th-8th graders demonstrate during lunch is definitely at the high end of expectations. In our classrooms, I continue to see and hear deep, meaningful academic conversations.
At the high school, social awareness was on full display during the community blood drive. Next week, we will celebrate the academic accomplishments of our senior class.
All of this is to say that Hornet Nation is a great place to learn! And, we're not going to rest on our nest. You can count on us to continue to grow our teaching practices through learning and doing, and we are going to count on you to continue to be an active participant and partner in your child's academic and social growth. Anytime you have questions, please reach out to your child's teacher(s) and principal.
In partnership and with Hornet Pride,
Judy

Health Information
COVID-19 protocols for positive cases, staff or student:
- With a positive case, the person must isolate for 5 days and not attend or be in school. In counting those days, the first date of symptoms (or the test, if no symptoms) is day 0.
- The COVID-positive person may return to school on Day 6, assuming symptoms are subsiding. We recommend, but do not require, masking for days 6-10 in school.
We are also attaching a handy resource from public health officials that provides guidance on when to keep a child home from school in a variety of illness-related situations.
