Wylie ISD’s Music Education Program Receives National Recognition for 10th Consecutive Year
Wylie ISD has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. Now in its 24th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.
To qualify for the Best Communities designation, Wylie ISD answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, and support for the music program and community music-making programs. Responses were verified with school officials and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.

Harrison Sixth Grader Names Newest Fire Truck
One Harrison Intermediate student recently received a special afternoon visit from a big, shiny, red truck. Wylie Fire Rescue stopped by the school April 21 to celebrate sixth grader Liam Storm. Back in October, students in art classes submitted a name for Wylie’s newest fire engine, Quint 144.
“Mrs. Melissa Blythe and I value being contributing members to our city and district,” art teacher Mrs. Michelle Beck said. “When we were asked by the Wylie Fire and Rescue to participate, we talked to the students about sharing our talents, to better our community.”
Beck’s student, Liam Storm’s, entry was selected by the fire department. Read more about Liam and his winning name when you visit our website.
Wylie High Senior Wins Video Contest
Wylie High School senior Madisyn Butler recently won the 2023 North Texas Tollway Association Student Video Contest. NTTA hosts the annual contest as part of a safety campaign to discourage distracted driving.
“I wanted to create a way to remind people to always have a safe drive,” Butler said.
In her video titled “Stay Alive -- Just Drive,” Butler wrote the script, created her shot list, filmed and edited the 34-second-long public service announcement in just a week.
Butler’s winning video cuts between present-day and future clips of the driver, Butler’s friend, WHS senior Ximena Fernandez-de-Jauregui. You can view Madisyn's video and read more about her award by visiting our website.
Wylie Police Department to Host Fentanyl Drug Forum
You may have seen stories in the news about the opiate drug fentanyl and overdose deaths that have impacted communities across our nation and even in surrounding communities.
