Ewing Young News
February
~ Mr. Wood
176 YEARS!
Oregon Pioneer Ewing Young was one of the most influential and interesting of Oregon's earliest settlers. Because he played such an important role in the early settlement of Oregon, the Oregon legislature passed a law making February 9th of every year "Ewing Young Day in Oregon".

COVID Reminders
As winter break comes to a close and we move into the new year, we are providing you with an update on the impact of COVID-19 within our school community. Our school district continues to prioritize safely providing in-person education and the unique experiences students, teachers and staff have when they are together in school. We are steadfast in this shared commitment, even as COVID cases of the more contagious Omicron variant rise quickly. I wanted to share a few quick reminders as we start back into the school year.
Don’t go to School Sick: Please don’t go to school with illness symptoms, no matter how mild.
Required Face Coverings Our districts will continue to require masks in all buildings. Please make sure to remind your child to wear their mask over their nose and mouth at all times indoors. Based on updated health recommendations, we encourage the use of N95 masks for optimal protection instead of cloth masks.
Wash Hands Frequently Protocols and systems are implemented to ensure access to soap, water, and alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol available throughout EY. Schools will prioritize handwashing with soap and water after students or staff use the restroom and throughout the day, as appropriate.
Distancing Physical distancing of 3 feet will be maintained to the extent possible. Students and staff will be asked to be mindful of physical distancing throughout the school day.
Report Cards
The teachers will provide feedback on your child's progress using the 1-4 scale and may include comments. Given that Academic Learning Targets are end-of-year goals, many students will still be "Sometimes Demonstrates" (2) in February. All students need to be "Proficient" (3) by the end of the year to be fully prepared for the next grade level.

Attendance Matters
Regardless of our age, we are constantly learning and developing. For our school-age student's school is the place where we are learning how to read, write, do math, and become lifelong learners. Students develop key relationships and learn important social skills, for all of this to happen students need to be present each and every school day.
Attendance is critical because students are more likely to succeed in academics when they attend school consistently. We realize there have been many challenges presented due to COVID this school year, and appreciate everything you have done to partner with the school. It is important that we minimize the amount of days students are missing school. Please try to limit the educational disruption by reducing the number of unexcused absences for your student.
