Let’s get this school year off to a rocking start! This year’s Innovation platform is going to be AWESOME! Brought to you by your Innovation Team: Shaloo Sawhney, Jonathan Ajagbe, and Ryan Taylor.

Using outside-the-box solution-based methods, students will be enriched with hands-on-activities and collaborative projects grounded in Design Thinking. We have divided our student body into 3 grade groups: k-2, 3-5, 6 & 7.

Our first semester focuses on Energy, our second semester concentrates on Structure; each group will have age-appropriate lessons, activities and field trips that will enhance their school experience. We truly seek to make our students innovators who will lead and impact their future communities.

On Monday we will begin MAP assessments for all students. The results of MAP assessments are used to track student growth. They are also a data point that is used when determining student placement eligibility for TAG, acceleration, etc.

There is no preparation needed for these tests other than to ensure your student gets a good night sleep and has a good breakfast. Please make every effort to get your student to school on time as testing will begin promptly at 8am.

Our annual curriculum night will be held on Thursday, August 31 from 5:30pm-7:30pm in person at FAST. This is the opportunity for parents to find out more about their student's teachers, their courses, and set expectations for the year.

Chef Ed from Ordo will be providing a tasting for parents so you know what is on the menu for lunch this year.

As a reminder, all visitors - including parents - must check in at the front desk in Innovation Hall upon arrival. No one is permitted to enter Student Hall without having first checked in at the front desk. Parents are not permitted to walk their student to their classroom. We have staff available during morning drop-off to ensure students are attended to.

Students are expected to be in their homeroom by 7:40am each day. If they arrive after 8am, you will need to sign them in at the front office. If your student misses school, please send the absence excuse to attendance@fastk8.org

All students are expected to be in proper uniform every day. In the near future, parents should expect a call from the front office with a request to bring the appropriate clothing for their student if they are out of uniform on more than one occasion.

Proper uniform means:

• FAST shirt (from Lands' End with FAST logo or spirit wear only)
• Khaki or navy bottoms (or black for middle school)
• No cargo shorts/pants
• No jeans
• No athletic shorts/pants
• No leggings
• No hoodies (FAST hoodies only allowed for middle school)
• No hats
• No crocs, slides or sandals (closed toe, closed heel shoes only)
• No outerwear inside other than FAST fleece

• Students must exit and enter cars from the passenger side
• Please display car pool tags and FAST passes in your front window
• Do not speed on campus
• No left turns out of school
• Please follow all staff directions

We are aware that there are a few different things making their rounds through the community making our students (and staff) not feel well. If your child is not feeling well, please do not send them to school. Students should be fever free (without the use of medication) for 24 hours before returning to school.

Aug. 31: Curriculum Night (5:30pm)

Sept. 4: Labor Day (school closed)

Sept. 5: Teacher work day (students off)

Sept. 6: Staff Professional Development day (students off)

Sept. 13: Soccer game: FAST vs Hopewell

Sept. 15: Soccer game: FAST vs. Ridgeview
