Can you believe that we have been in school for over 60 days now?!

It's December already and the Holiday season is upon us.

Let's remember to focus on the little moments we have each and every day. Although holiday presents are fun to receive, spending time together is the best gift of all. Reading a book together, watching a movie as a family, or making a holiday craft are the times our students will remember long after that "hot new toy" has been broken or pushed aside.

We all know that time goes by way too fast - so stop and enjoy the moments you have together.

Winter Break begins with an 11:00 Dismissal on Friday, Dec. 23. Students return to school on Tuesday, January 10, 2023.

The SIC staff wishes everyone a wonderful Holiday season and a Happy, Healthy 2023!

Please help us decorate our Frosty tree with new gloves, mittens, hats, scarves, and socks for those in need. We will be collecting items until December 23rd. Thank you for helping those in need keep warm this winter.

At the Steger Intermediate Center, we have many students with various food allergies. Due to this reason, all holiday party and birthday treats will be limited to the list below. As always, please check with your child’s classroom teacher for any additional food restrictions. We appreciate your cooperation in helping to keep all of our students safe and healthy.

School Safe Treats for Holiday Parties/Birthdays

Animal Crackers, Applesauce, Marshmallows, Goldfish, Pretzels, Fruit Snacks, Jello, Individually wrapped Rice Krispie treats, Graham crackers, School Safe Cupcakes *(Only if there are no dairy or chocolate allergies in the class - Please check with your child's teacher) **The bakery cupcakes are not school safe and are not peanut free.

Those classrooms that earned 30 Cardinal Badges during the 1st Trimester were invited to a Neon Dance Party! Glow in the dark decorations and glow bracelets were a big hit - and so were the snacks! Dancing with friends and teachers was a great way to end the 1st Trimester - and to celebrate Positive Behavior!

We miss your students when they are not in school! Did you know, that students who miss 10% of the school year are considered Truant - regardless of whether it is excused or not. That means, that if your student has been absent for 6 days so far this school year, they are technically truant. Please make sure that your student comes to school each day unless they are truly sick, such as fever, chills, continuous coughing, vomiting, or diarrhea. Time spent out of school is a missed opportunity for learning.

Steger Intermediate Center has its very own author - Mrs. Frakes! Mrs. Frakes has published 3 novels in the Bloodties Saga and is working on #4. Mrs. Frakes has been working in Steger SD 194 for 25 years and is currently the Math Interventionist at SIC. We are proud to call Mrs. Frakes one of our Cardinals!

It is very hard to come to school every day and we celebrate these students and their families for making school attendance a priority! We will honor them with certificates, Cardinal Cash, and an ice cream party!

All students at SIC will be taking the NWEA MAP Winter Benchmark Test in Reading and in Math the week of January 17th, 2023. Students took the Fall Benchmark Test in September and were given a RIT Goal for the Winter Test. Those students that meet their RIT Goal in either Reading, Math, or both, will be invited to a Pizza Party!
