Around Our Campus
The scoop around the SOC
Here's what going on around the campus.....
Here's what's going on around the campus .....
- The office is open daily from 8 - 4.
- Don't forget to register for all of the in-service training through Eduphoria Workshop. If anyone needs help let me know.
- The book study for the students is The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. Trudi has received the books and you are welcome to pick up a copy. Please make sure you sign your copy out. Make sure you put your name in the book so if it is misplaced, it will find its way back to you.
- PROFESSIONAL STAFF ONLY - Since we are now receiving 4 hours of PD credit for compliance training it is due by August 21. Please send your 504 certificate to Mike.
- For convocation this year we will be wearing our new staff shirt, which is navy with khaki bottoms. So if you don't have khakis like me, start watching the sales rack.
- Looks like we are back in the hiring process. Donna Smith and Shana Hayne have both resigned. Donna will be working ETS scoring SAT essays so that she spend more time at home with her children and Shana has accepted a position in Prosper, which is much closer to her home. They will both be dearly missed, but we wish them well in their new positions.
- Our new portable has arrived and is being set up. As of now, we are planning on moving the CABS team out to the new portable as well as AcAc ISS. Karen will remain where she is and Joe will move to the classroom beside her. We are hoping that all of this will take place before school begins, but there are no guarantees. Facilities is working as fast as they can to get it taken care of.
- We will be using Remind 101 for campus notifications, i.e. bad weather days, reminder about potlucks, etc. Below are the directions to join the group.
- Text @C8AK2 to 81010
- You will get a text asking for your name. Respond with your name.
- Your second incoming text will ask what is your position. Reply T.
- A new thread will be created saying that you have joined.
- Save this number in your phone; all emergency or reminder contact will come from this source.

Remember, your data collection will begin with your pre and post assessment (Common Formative Assessments or CFA) for each course. These assessments should be written so that you can measure student growth from the beginning of each class. You will want to have these assessments ready to be given to students by Wednesday, August 24. You may have time on Tuesday to give an assessment depending on length. Be the first person to read this and send me an email to receive a jeans pass.

OUR NEW STAFF
Meet Melanie Mathis.....who is joining our math team and we couldn't be more EXCITED!!
I look forward to teaching Math Models & AQR at the SOC and making a difference in the lives of students here in Frisco. I am new to the area, but the love of my life lives here and so I now call North TX home. I can't wait to get to know my new school family!
Meet Allison Taite... an AWESOME addition to our instructional aide team!!!
Allison Taite served as a Substitute Teacher in the FISD during the 2015-2016 school year. She spent much of her time at the Student Opportunity Center toward the end of that year and developed positive relationships with students and staff serving in the role of Substitute Lab Facilitator.
Allison's 18 year career includes teaching, social work, volunteering and counseling students and their families. A recent transplant from Oklahoma by way of Philadelphia, Washington, DC and Atlanta, Allison is happy to return to the Southwest after 21 years!
She enjoys spending time with her daughter, family and friends as well as reading and helping others.
Meet Beena Steven....who is going to be a GREAT addition to the science team!!!
I am Beena Stephen from India and am passionate about teaching. I have 18 years of teaching experience from India, Los Angeles, as well as Texas. We moved from Los Angeles to Dallas and made Frisco our home town. I am happily married to Moncy Stephen and have a son, Jospeh at 14 year old...yes a teenager at home. I love to read and cook and am looking forward to sharing some of my favorite dishes with you all. I promise I will make them less spicy.
I am excited to join SOC family and absolutely love teaching especially with young adults who needs a helping hand...
Meet Ashley Doyle.... our new counselor and we are so HAPPY she has joined the team!!!
I have two children, Caleb is 4 1/2 and Mikayla is 3 1/2. I enjoy being outside; camping, soccer, hiking, biking, etc. I'm very excited to be here this year!
