Dress-down Thursdays start tomorrow!
Help our 8th grade students raise money for their trip to Savannah by bringing $1 to dress-down on Thursdays. Dress-down will take place on both campuses every Thursday from March 2 to March 30. Parent volunteers will be collecting money at the front door and walker door (LC) and the carpool door and instrument drop off door (UC). Please make every effort to bring the exact change. Thank you for your support!
Welcome return to a pre-COVID lunchtime policy
Beginning on Monday, March 13, both campuses will return to our pre-COVID policy regarding visitors eating lunch with their child(ren). Please remember that all visitors must enter through the main doors at both campuses and wear a visitor’s tag the entire time they’re in the building. As the current Student and Family Handbook states, “In an effort to promote healthy eating, fast food should not be provided. All food must comply with the school’s nut-free policy.”
Read Across America Day is here
Kindergarten to 5th grade students will be celebrating Read Across America Day on March 2 and 3. All students will celebrate on their English day! Students will have the opportunity to choose a book that represents their culture or family history. They can dress up as a person from that book and if possible donate a copy of the book to their classroom library.
We hope to add additional books to the classroom libraries so they can be even more robust and reflective of our diverse community. Reading diverse and inclusive books in the coming weeks might help your student discover a character with whom they identify. You might even find one here on Read Across America's calendar for the year. Looking for even more diverse books? Click here.
Submit your short story
To remember these cultures, family histories, and the diversity of our GLOBE community, we invite students and their families to submit a short video sharing the book they chose for Read Across America Day and how that book represents them.
If you'd like to participate, please submit a short video (that you feel comfortable sharing with the GLOBE community) through this Flip link. We look forward to hearing about the books that are meaningful to our GLOBE students and their families!

Black History Month Culminating Event
We had an amazing month of mystery readers, door decoration, and morning announcements about famous Black Americans. We ended our celebration with a culminating assembly that featured the dance troupe Djoli Kelen and a presentation about Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) marching band which featured several staff members and Mr. Jarrod Barnes, a former member of Savannah State University's band program, “the Powerhouse of the South.”

An Inside Look at Curriculum and Instruction
As Upper Campus Curriculum and Instruction Coach, Megan Tolbert works closely with teachers to develop materials that they can use for instruction. This year, her biggest goal was to create professional learning opportunities for all of our teachers here at UC.
“I've developed and/or assisted in the facilitation of several in-house learning opportunities,” she said. “This has included trainings for all 4th and 5th grade teachers in their OUR math curriculum, individualized coaching cycles for teachers within various subject areas, middle school and elementary trainings in our reading and writing workshop model, and a school-wide training focused on the importance of vocabulary instruction. Many teachers have also attended additional professional development opportunities outside of the school building!”
Thanks to leadership like Megan’s, GLOBE’s classrooms are filled with rich learning experiences and led by teachers who are dedicated to their learners’ academic and social-emotional development.
After a month full of special activities to celebrate Black History Month, our UC students put on a spectacular performance! 8th grade students Adonay Samson and Haywan Deneke also conducted morning announcements bilingually in Amharic (the language of Ethiopia and Eritrea) and English.

Helping Your Child with Executive Functioning
Exceptional Children’s Week (March 6–10)
PTCC is happy to be partnering with GLOBE to celebrate Exceptional Children’s Week. The theme for this year is “Power in Our Differences.” Here are a few initiatives we hope your family will consider supporting:
Participate in mystery reader activities organized by your English teachers next week. PTCC donated books highlighting people with exceptionalities to all English classrooms.
Create a poster with your student(s) celebrating a person with exceptionalities. Once you complete it and send it to the school, it will be displayed in a classroom or hallway. Projects will be accepted any day next week: simply send it to school with your child.
Participate in the Georgia Council for Exceptional Children’s Annual Student Contest. Click here to learn more information. Submission Deadline: March 13.
PTCC is also helping to coordinate and sponsor three workshops for the staff Professional Development Day on March 10. The workshops will focus on best practices to support children with exceptionalities.
March Spirit Night with the Atlanta Hawks
The Atlanta Hawks are hosting a GLOBE PTCC Spirit Night on Saturday, March 25. Purchase your tickets at hawkspromos.com/globeacademy to earn our school $5 with each ticket purchased. Pricing options start at $27. Each ticket includes a $10 food and beverage credit.

Used uniform collection this Friday morning!
This Friday, March 3, we will be collecting used uniforms at LC and UC during morning carpool. Please wash the clothes and put them in a bag. PTCC will have volunteers standing by the drop-off line to receive them. To keep carpool running smoothly, please have bags ready to hand over as soon as you see us. If your children walk to school (and they can carry the bag safely) or if you walk your kids to the door, we will be there to take those bags too. If you’d like to help collect uniforms, click here to access the Sign Up Genius and join us.
Field Day Planning for UC
Volunteers are still needed in order to make UC Field Day happen! If you're willing to organize the treats/popsicles, help with publicity, or coordinate volunteers, please contact classpac.globeacademy@gmail.com to sign up or to find out more. Thanks for helping to make UC Field Day possible!
The Annual PTCC GLOBE Auction
Save the Date! This year’s Auction will be on April 14 and 15, ending with a Live Auction at Pontoon Brewing in Tucker! Registration will begin later this week. Will you be out and about in Toco Hills, Buford Hwy, Brighten Park, Decatur, Avondale Estates, or Chamblee? Send us an email if you can ask for donations from businesses in those areas (donation tax form). Also, are you a GLOBE-owned business or artisan and interested in donating? Tangible and non-tangible items are welcome - we’d love to help you promote your work.
Earth Day Service Projects
GLOBE will celebrate Earth Day on April 22 with service projects to beautify our campuses. We are looking for one or two volunteers to lead projects at Lower Campus (Upper Campus already has a lead).
