SMS Student Council organized a spirit week from Monday, February 12th through Friday, February 16th.

Monday - Pink and red day (wear pink or red)

Tuesday - Show your love for your favorite team (wear your favorite team's apparel)

Wednesday - Show your love for yourself (look your best)

Thursday - Love for chaos (rhyme without reason, twin with a friend)

Friday - Love for comfort (wear PJs...that include purple and gold)

The SMS swim team starts practice on Monday, February 12th. The bus leaves SMS at 5:20 p.m. and will return at 8:00 p.m. Students should bring a swimsuit, goggles, a towel, a bottle of water, and a change of clothes.

Students who are interested in joining the swim team must have Final Forms completed and a physical on file.

Practices and meets are listed in Eventlink.

SMS eighth grade students have the opportunity to take several electives that often allow them to earn high school credit. One example is Intro to 2D Art taught by Mr. Heacock.

SMS yearbooks for the 2023-2024 school year are on sale for $17 until April 1st.

You can order a yearbook by visiting https://inter-state.com/YearbookEntry/82507K or by using a paper order form that is available in the office to pay by cash/check.

Yearbooks will arrive in mid-May.

SMS students, faculty, and staff will soon have the opportunity to share a positive shoutout to anyone at SMS. We will use a Google form to submit shoutouts, which will be displayed on the Warrior Window.

Stay tuned for a launch date.

Indiana's ILEARN assessment window is Monday, April 15th through Friday, May 10th.

SMS plans to have students complete the assessments on April 16-18, April 22-25, and April 30-May 2.

Please try to avoid student absences/appointments on these ten days.

Our winter sports season is nearly over.

Basketball and cheerleading seasons have concluded.

Wrestling finishes in the next month.

Swimming had an informational meeting during lunch last week and will finish before spring break.

Students should listen to the afternoon announcements for more information about tryouts, practices, and events.

Eventlink will still be the platform that we use to communicate with parents/family members regarding practices and events.

Monday, February 26th is a professional development day. Teachers will be finalizing grades and participating in multiple training opportunities.

Monday, April 8th was changed to an eLearning day. The state created a website with some helpful resources related to the solar eclipse.

The 2024-2025 school calendar is also shown below for those of you who prefer to plan ahead.

As a reminder, students should only use their school-issued iPad and all of their school accounts for tasks that their teachers assign.

Students should not use their iPad or accounts for chatting via Google docs, searching non-education related terms/phrases, or any other activity that isn't directly related to something that a teacher assigned.

Please remember that students should not be dropped off each morning prior to 7:15 a.m.

Our morning supervision person arrives at that time.

Attention SMS students who walk to and from school:

Please be careful when crossing the streets, utilize sidewalks and crosswalks when available, and follow the street crossing signs.

Officer Nicholson has met with all students regarding safety at school and throughout the community.

Like many schools, we occasionally experience some supply/distribution delays. We will follow the posted menus when possible, but will have to make adjustments at times.

The Scottsburg MS student handbook contains some updates for the 2023-2024 school year. The most significant changes took place in the attendance section.
