Visitor Aware - New Visitor Management & Screening Service
As an additional effort to improve the safety and security of our buildings, each school will be implementing a visitor management system called "Visitor Aware" beginning next Monday, August 28, 2023.
Visitor Aware is a visitor management and screening service designed specifically to help secure our schools. Visitor Aware is used to ensure that only safe visitors are granted access to this location. This provides an additional layer of security for your children by validating the identities of anyone entering the premises, determining if they are a potential threat, and keeping accurate records of all school visits.
Please review the short "How to" videos and corresponding Infographics, as well as the Parent Welcome Packet for more information (links below).
Finally, be sure to have your Driver's License in hand the first time you visit our school so that you can get registered into our system. Once you have registered at a school, you are registered at all buildings throughout our district.

- Parking registrations must be done using the link below BUT accessed from a students' FHS gmail account (a closed system for the protection of students).
- A Student Parking Receipt (auto generated when filling out form - see button below) needs to be printed, signed and brought to FHS when purchasing the $20.00 parking sticker.
NOTE: Parking sticker checks will begin the Week of August 29 - September 1st.
Traffic Safety Rules
All drivers are reminded that the loop to the south of the high school where the Main Entrance is located is reserved each morning (7:00-7:45 a.m.) and afternoon (2:15 to 2:45 p.m.) for school buses only. Anyone dropping off or picking up students should use the Parent loop accessible from Donaldson Drive.
Dropping Off Items
Dropping Off Items to Students
Visitors will need to use the FHS main entrance off of Shiawassee Avenue to drop off forgotten items. To enter the building, you will need to:
1) Buzz the intercom on the brick wall near the last door on the right-hand side.
2) FHS Clerical staff will greet you and determine the need to "buzz" you in.
3) If attending a meeting, proceed to the office & complete the Visitor Aware check-in (need driver's license).
4) If dropping off an item, use the labels on the table outside.
5) Take a label from the cup.
6) Write your student's name on the label, then place it on the item being dropped off.
7) Text your student to let them know the item is here.
8) Students will be able to pick up the item during passing time or the end of the day
Outside Food Deliveries - Not without Prior Admin Permission
For the safety and nutritional needs of students, as well as to reduce disruptions to the educational process, food deliveries to school grounds through outside delivery services (i.e. Uber Eats, Grub Hub, Door Dash, etc.) and direct foodservice vendors (i.e. Panera, Jimmy John’s, Dominoes, etc.) must be pre-approved by school administrators.
Prior approval must also be obtained for parents wanting to deliver outside food items to his/her student and friends as this competes with what is sold in the cafeteria as part of the federal school lunch programs, creates confusion, incorrectly implies students can order food for delivery to the cafeteria, and arrangements must be made to find an alternate location for food consumption for the group.
Arrival & Dismissal & Sick Children Information
Late Arrival/Early Dismissal/Sick Children
Please call the FHS Attendance Line (810) 591-2609 to excuse your student for appointments, illnesses, etc. Be sure to allow for ample time (at least 30 minutes) ahead of the appointment to get your child dismissed. Phone lines are checked every 30 minutes.
Students should ALWAYS report to the office to sign in late, sign out for an appointment or to go home sick. Students should NOT just text a parent then leave the building without checking out in the Main Office.
If parents/guardians call with enough notice, a pass can be issued and the parent/guardian can remain in the vehicle and have the student dismissed to meet them, saving time and being more convenient.
Attendance Reminders
Students are permitted a maximum of 10 absences per semester. There are two semesters per year (Aug - mid-January & mid-January to June).
Parents/students are able to see attendance on Parent Vue or Student Vue. Reminder communication goes out according to the following:
- Robocall goes out daily for unexcused absences
- 3 days of absence in a class: 3 day letter
- 7 days of absence in a class: 7 day letter
- 10 days of absence in a class: 10 day letter with offer to go on Attendance Plan (upon signed PLAN for next 9-10 weeks).
- Attendance Appeal: End of semester - provide new, better, different documentation of absences.
Closed Campus
School district policy does not permit a student to leave campus once they have been dropped off or at any time during the school day, particularly at lunch or during SRT.
Any student needing to leave the school grounds must follow the Early Dismissal/Check Out procedure and obtain a pass from the Main Office. Failure to check out through the Main Office could result in disciplinary action.
If a student has an appointment during the school day, parents and/or guardians must call in first thing in the morning in order to have the student excused.

Biographies of the "hero" are read over the PA system and FHS Varsity football players award the jersey to the honoree after the game.
Teaching & Learning
Positivity Project
P2: Next Week's Theme: Teamwork
This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Curiosity. Curiosity means you like exploration and discovery. You ask lots of questions because you want to learn more about anything and everything.
Curiosity is a crucial component of one’s character. Our innate urge for discovery and exploration is a key element of our human desire for wisdom and knowledge. It’s what keeps us intrigued in the plotlines of movies and books. It’s what pushes us to try new activities or travel to different places. All individuals experience curiosity but differ in their willingness to experience it -- behaviorally, intellectually, and emotionally.
Individuals with the character strength of curiosity are more likely to ask questions and try new things. Curiosity, then, is a form of courage. Asking questions exposes the fact that we don’t know and trying a new activity means we might fail. But, it’s only through asking questions and exploring new opportunities that we learn and grow.
To practice and encourage the character strength of curiosity with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2) where together you will watch a video, read a quote and talk about the answers to three questions.
