Growing Learning Lab Facilitators
Facilitators of professional learning know that the more authentic and embedded learning is the messier it is to design and facilitate. Creating a space for participants to feel safe and get messy in the work takes careful planning and strategic moves throughout its facilitation. Series leaders Samantha Keesling and Megan Kortlandt, co-authors of Principal Labs: Strengthening Instructional Leadership Through Shared Learning (ASCD), have designed and facilitated hundreds of labs for teachers and leaders alike, and will share what they’ve learned about managing the complexities of facilitating learning labs over the years.
In this two day series, participants will experience a job-embedded learning lab in order to study its design and facilitation so that they can grow their own skills around leading this form of professional learning for teachers and leaders. Learning labs offer a common structure for professional learning, but they are not one-size-fits all. Throughout these two days, participants will learn about creating a culture for learning and questions to ask when designing and customizing each lab experience for a variety of purposes and audiences.
