Nike Scout News September 2022
Check out what's happening at Nike
Thank you to a great start to the school year!
I hope this newsletter finds you well. Learning is in full swing at Nike Elementary and it is awesome to see our students back in the building. The school is buzzing with energy and excitement as we head into September. I want to personally thank you for all that you have done to prepare your children for a successful year. I have really enjoyed getting to know the students as they get off the bus in the mornings, popping into classrooms to say hello, and during lunches.
I will be sending out monthly newsletters to communicate important information and upcoming events. We will also be sending out weekly emails with Thursday folder information.
We have a few important upcoming events.
If parents are needing additional KidAccount cards, they can be purchased for $1.00. Please contact the office if you are needing more or replacement cards.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions throughout the year. You can find my contact information at the bottom of the newsletter. I look forward to partnering with you to make your Nike experience the best it can be.

Counselor's Corner
Ms. Shanna Raeker is the Nike school counselor. School counselors provide a variety of services to students such as bi-monthly classroom lessons, individual visits for short-term counseling and small groups for skill building. She is also available to link families with community resources. Feel free to reach out to her by emailing sraeker@mvr3.k12.mo.us or call 636 271 1444 and ask for Ms. Raeker.
From Nurse Jamie
Welcome Back! I hope you all enjoyed your summer break, I know I did!
Getting back into the routine of school can be difficult on little ones, especially when it comes to potty time, so we see more bathroom accidents at this time during the year. If you haven't already done so, I ask that all Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st grade students send in a change of clothes to be kept at school. Please place clothing in a large ziplock bag labeled with your child's name and teacher. If you have an older child who is prone to accidents, please send clothing in for them as well. While I do keep some clothing in my office my supply is limited!
MUSIC
My name is Roxanda Fenelon and I am your music teacher. This is my nineteenth year in the district. I have my Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Missouri State and two Master’s Degrees, one in Education from Southwest Baptist University and the other in Music from UMSL. I am excited about creating music again with the students and performing it in front of an audience. We have an online textbook called Quaver Music that is accessible any time through the students' Clever accounts. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me through email at rfenelon@mvr3.k12.mo.us or through the ClassDojo Messenger.
Looking forward to a creative year with your students!
Art
New this year is our art gallery, located to the right of the library. We are very excited to share the work of Nike artists!
If you are able, here are some things we can always use in the art room:
Unscented baby wipes
Yarn
Buttons and Pony Beads
Empty paper towel tubes
We will have our first art show at First State Community Bank in October. The bank is located at 302 West St. Louis Street in Pacific. If you have the chance, stop by to see some great work by our Nike artists!
Communication is key! I can be reached at cpatterson@mvr3.k12.mo.us or by calling the Nike office.
Have a great year!
Library
We will start to do our first book checkouts at the end of August (except for kindergarten). The younger students have been working on book care and listening to our first stories of the year. We will read many different books throughout the year, including our Show Me Picture books. Every year there is a new list of Show Me Readers and students get to vote for their favorite.
Third and fourth grade students have been reviewing how to find books in the library using call numbers and using our Destiny software. We have also been learning about the different fiction genres.
In September, all grades will discuss Internet Safety, which is such an important topic. Younger students will learn the four types of "bad guys" online. Older students will learn a variety of topics such as cyberbullying, passwords and safety.
PE
I'm excited to get the year rolling and start teacher your student the skills and foundation to living a healthy/active lifestyle. To begin the year I like to cover basic skills such as throwing, kicking, and hand-eye coordination with the Pre-k, Kindergarten, and 1st grades. For the older grades, we start off with soccer, and then lead in to football; which is mainly focused around throwing and catching.
Please remember to wear TENNIS SHOES on your PE day. In fact, wearing tennis shoes every day will keep you safe out on the playground for recess.
3rd & 4th grade parents, your child is eligible for intramural sports. When spring time rolls around keep a lookout for sign-up sheets.

PTO Spotlight
Exciting things are happening with PTO. Mark your calendars, we have our 2nd Annual Family Movie Night on Sept 16th. Doors open at 6 and the movie will start at 6:30. PTO will have free popcorn and have candy and water for sale. Bring your blankets and we'll see you at the Nike Gym.
Looking ahead for our Sept meeting on Sept 13th at 6:30 in the Nike Library, we will be electing our 2022-2023 officers. This is just official business, but we truly work together as a team and the officer titles are just logisitics. We will also start our planning for our huge fundraiser coming up in Nov, the Mouse Races. We need volunteers to make this event run smoothly. Please consider helping with this event or getting your friends together for a night of fun!
Check out the calendar of events at the bottom to make your calendars. You won't want to miss all the fun things PTO has in store for this school year.
