Weekly Update December 3, 2021
Head Cheetah's Message
Dear Families,
This week the halls of Memorial School were bustling with friendly faces. Students enjoyed shopping for that "Just right" book at the Book Fair, and families were rushing to meet with teachers for their first parent/teacher conferences of the year. We were elated to welcome families into the building this week. Conferences provide a wonderful opportunity for staff to share student progress, student work, and celebrate each child's success! We are so proud of all of our students. They are persevering and growing every day!
A special thank you to all the Book Fair volunteers! Your assistance made the experience go smoothly for all involved! Thank you to Mrs. Flannery and Mrs. Hill for coordinating this event!
Classroom tidbits:
- In kindergarten, students are working on identifying the beginning, middle, and end of a story, along with the problem and solution.
- In first grade this week, writing skills have been blossoming as students studied informational writing, and worked on publishing their "How to" books!
- In second grade, students are learning to use keywords to help further their understanding about non-fiction topics.
- In third Grade, students are reading and writing nonfiction text. They are adding to what they know about a topic of interest by conducting research on the topic.
For the month of December we are discussing the profile of a graduate principle " Wonder."
One way you can inspire your child to wonder is by listening to children and helping them explore their ideas. Children are naturally curious. Listen to their questions. What they’re wondering about is what interests them. (Janet Kliplanger Ciccone 2018)

Gym Expectations and News
Hi everyone,
Things are going great in PE class as the warm weather has allowed us to stay outside, for the most part, right up until Thanksgiving break. After Thanksgiving break we will plan to be inside the gym until spring.
Our Preschool and Kindergarten students have been continuing to work hard with our classroom expectations of doing our best, being a kind and helpful partner, understanding our progress, and improving our fitness, strength, and flexibility. We have spent some time outside with our frisbee unit which includes throwing at various targets, to a partner in Kindergarten, and having fun experimenting with throwing the frisbee at different angles and various distances. We also spent some time working at fitness and skills stations in the gym, along with our usual running and exercising routines.
Our First Graders have been continuing to work hard with our classroom expectations of doing our best, being a kind and helpful partner, understanding our progress, and improving our fitness, strength, and flexibility. In our frisbee unit, we worked on throwing and catching, as we incorporated and worked on understanding how to “curve” or “bend” the frisbee and control its flight, as well as different catching techniques. We finished with a modified disc (frisbee) golf hole that groups played and had fun with. We also spent some time working at fitness and skills stations in the gym, along with our usual running and exercising routines.
Our Second and Third Graders have been continuing to work hard with our classroom expectations of doing our best, being a kind and helpful partner, understanding our progress, and improving our fitness, strength, and flexibility. In our frisbee unit, we worked on throwing and catching, as we incorporated and worked on understanding how to “curve” or “bend” the frisbee and control its flight, as well as different catching techniques. We finished with a disc (frisbee) golf course that groups played, had fun with, and practiced keeping and recording their scores. We also spent some time working at fitness and skills stations in the gym, along with our usual running and exercising routines.
It’s been a great fall with the children progressing nicely in many different areas, including overall fitness and strength, various skill development, and with our classroom expectations, such as effort and taking pride in their effort, appreciating the efforts of their classmates and partners, cooperating and working together on various tasks and activities, and enjoying the feeling and benefits of exercise and movement.
Have a great Thanksgiving break, we hope you can get outside and enjoy the outdoors as we get ready for winter and hopefully some fun in the snow!

Nurse Notes
New to the Nurse's Office
Parents/guardians,
We are so excited to welcome Michelle Lemire to the Memorial family. Michelle Lemire is the new nurse assistant at Memorial Elementary School. She lives in East Hampton with her husband, 3 girls, and 2 dogs. Her family loves hobby farming, growing fruits and veggies and looking after their chickens. They also help look after the neighbor's oxen calves and their horse, Spice. She was born and raised in Pretoria, South Africa before moving to Massachusetts in middle school.
Reminders:
*Please bring in an extra set of seasonally appropriate clothing for your child to keep at school. The occasional accident happens and if your child has their own clothing we know that it will fit them and that they will be comfortable.
*With the colder weather here, please make sure your child also has a coat, gloves and a hat labeled with their names. The nurse's office has very limited clothing to spare in case a change or spare is needed.
*We also ask that you bring a labeled water bottle for your child and they can fill it up throughout the day in the water filling stations as needed.
*Preschool students are required to show proof of vaccination against the flu by December 31st. If you have not done so already, please provide documentation of immunization to the school as soon as possible. We appreciate your assistance,
Nurse Katie and Miss Michelle

Important News
East Hampton Bus Routes
CHANGE on Monday, December 6
Please review information carefully to confirm changes for your children.
Attention Parents:
On Monday, December 6, in order to accommodate the number of drivers to whom he have access, we are adjusting our bus routes in the fairest way possible to ensure the best possible serve to our families.
There are two changes that will impact all families:
- Bus #3 and Bus #7 have been eliminated. All students on these routes have been assigned to other buses.
- The pickup/drop off times have been adjusted for all routes. There are many time changes to stops given the new bus assignments.
Please make sure that you take the time to review the information included in this email. The attachments included and the links provided below have the same information. Each bus run: (1) High School, (2) Middle School, and (3) Center & Memorial includes two charts.
- Chart 1 – An alphabetical list of streets.
- Chart 2 – A complete list of routes in order of Bus numbers.
Please review the attachments or the links below in order to determine any change to your child’s route and/or the pickup/drop off time.
If you review via the links, there are two tabs at the bottom. The first is the alphabetical list of streets; the second is sorted by the route number. Both versions are attached as separate PDFs.
Parents can use search features in both versions. DATTCO truncates addresses and removes periods, so, for example, to search “South Main Street” search “S Main” or “S Main St” and for “East High Street” search “E High” or “E High St”.
See the attached PDFs – or use the links below to confirm bus routes/times.
