Congratulations to the GLOBE Swim Team for becoming MAAC conference league champions. The swimmers competed at Georgia Tech on Saturday, January 21, and put in a stellar performance to bring home both the championship and runners-up trophies! GLOBE would like to thank the swimmers, coaches, families and volunteers, for all of their hard work to make our inaugural swim season such a huge success!

Congratulations to 8th grade GLOBE student Peedie Flaherty who became the best speller in all of DeKalb last night, by winning the 2023 DeKalb County Spelling Bee Finals. Peedie is now looking forward to competing at state level!

Our Lunar New Year celebrations for Mandarin track families takes place on Friday, January 27. Hallways are decorated and students have been very busy preparing for what will undoubtedly be a superb celebration of the new year. Spirit Wear will also be on sale.

Lower Campus performance takes place from 9am to 10am in the Village Plaza (cafeteria) and at Upper Campus from 1:30pm to 2:30pm in the Auditorium. Parking for UC families will be at Church in Atlanta (2345 Shallowford Rd NE) only. Please do not park in the main UC parking lot, since there will be students at recess.

Black History Month

We are looking forward to celebrating Black History Month at GLOBE. Look out for more details on how you can join in the festivities at both campuses in next week’s newsletter.

The next Coffee Talk will be on STAMP Testing. It will be hosted by Ms. Sandra Daniel, our Director of Language Program, from 8:30am to 9:30am in the UC cafeteria.

Lower Campus:

Lunar New Year Celebration on Friday

Mandarin track students are encouraged to wear traditional Chinese dress, but we invite the entire school to wear the color red in celebration! We hope to see all Mandarin track families at the Lunar New Year performance this Friday at 9am in the Village Plaza (cafeteria). Doors will open at 8:45am.

Black History Month (BHM) Door Decorations

The PTCC BHM Committee is looking for volunteers to decorate one (or more) LC classroom doors. Please click here if you’d like to help.

Connections at LC

We are beginning our throwing and catching unit in PE class at LC. Each grade level has a slightly different focus in the process. This ranges from the foundation of throwing, underhand and overhand throws for our kindergarten and first grade students, to the more mature movements of throwing and catching for the second and third grade classes. All students are encouraged to face their target, stepping with opposition, transferring weight, and following through when throwing. The coaches are super excited about what the students will learn through some of the fun activities they have planned for them.

Installation of new fire detection system at Lower Campus is complete

GLOBE has been in the process of updating the fire detection system at Lower Campus. We are pleased to report that the new system is now installed and fully operational. GLOBE has received approval from the DeKalb County Fire Marshall to end our fire watch, which was being provided by contractors Signal Security.

January menu update

Please be advised that the January menu has recently been updated. You can view the latest menus here.

Automated meal payment system

We are happy to inform parents that the automated system for processing meals is fully functional and students are using their unique PIN (comprised of their Student ID number) to account for breakfast and lunch charges daily.

Earlier this year, email communication was sent advising parents that meal charges had not been properly processed using our automated system. This error resulted in charges not being deducted from your student’s MyPaymentsPlus meal account in real time. GLOBE’s Nutrition Department has been reconciling and updating student meal charges daily. We are working diligently to ensure prior meals are captured and accounted for. GLOBE recognizes that the meal data entries may cause concerns when reviewing and funding your student’s account. Please, do not fret. Address any questions, concerns, or discrepancies you may have to: nutrition@theglobeacademy.net. The GLOBE Academy is here to work with you.

The Admissions and Re-Enrollment season is in full swing, and we want to make sure that you are aware of the following:

'Intent to Return' form must be submitted by February 3
If you have not submitted your 'Intent to Return' form, we ask that you do so ASAP. The deadline for form submissions is February 3, 2023.

Lottery
Our lottery will officially open this coming Monday, January 30. If you are interested in enrolling a new student you must submit an application via our website, not via school choice. The lottery closes on February 17. The drawing will be held on February 28.

Swimming

As mentioned earlier in this newsletter, congratulations to the swim team on their championship win at Georgia Tech last weekend!

Basketball

This is the last week of regular season play for Basketball.

Congratulations to the Girls Basketball Team for clinching 2nd place in the conference. They will get home court advantages and will automatically advance to the first round of playoffs. The team is led by Gabriella Benjamin, Gabby Brent, Gavin Brent and Regan Fields. Congratulations ladies!

The Boys A Team won on Tuesday night against Holy Spirit and they play The Museum School at home on Thursday this week. If they win, it is a possibility that they will make the playoffs. They are led by Aiden Francois and Aiden Brown. Good luck guys!

Boys B Team is in 3rd place. Their tournament will be held on January 30 at Ridgeview.
St. Martin v Epstein and Ridgeview v GLOBE. The winners will play for the title!

Boys C Team is in 2nd place. This team is playing really well and will certainly be in the playoff.
