Winter Weather Information

Officials consider many things when making decisions on inclement weather days; however, the final decision is always determined by what is best for the students. Everyone's safety and well-being is top priority of our school district.

The district strives to make an early decision so families can make a plan. School families will likely hear from the district by 6:30 a.m. on School Cancellation / Hard Surface Road Only Days. Due to the volatility of the weather, this may not always be possible, but we try our best.

The district will also notify local TV stations KHQA - channel 7, and WGEM - channel 10.

When a two-hour delay announcement is made, continue to listen to the radio and television for updated information. If conditions deteriorate, a decision will be made to close school for the day by 7:30 a.m.

During a delayed-start situation, morning bus transportation will be delayed two hours from normal pick-up times. This will apply to all students including vocational and special needs students. Students are required to be at their bus stop five (5) minutes early even though buses could be running slow due to weather conditions. Please be sure to dress your children appropriately.

When school is delayed, it is important that you DO NOT send or drop off your children at school prior to the delayed start time. Building staff will not be available to supervise children before that time.

Hard Surface Road Only routes have been established for days when it is not possible to run the buses on gravel roads. Hard Surface Only routes can be found on our district website's transportation page.

Families impacted will receive a phone call and an email to the contact information we have on file in your parent portal.

Occasionally, school will be dismissed early due to inclement weather. If an early dismissal is required, an announcement will be made that school will be dismissed a specific number of hours early from the building’s normal dismissal time. School buses will run beginning at the dismissal time announced on those days if school is canceled midday.

Families will receive a text and an email letting them know the specific number of hours early school will be dismissing.
