The close of this school year brings about much change in a very exciting way for McAllister Elementary School. While the school population will be much smaller at the beginning of next school year, the same level of excellence, achievement and positive energy will continue. With this change there are many well wishes we want to express to the staff leaving McAllister Elementary School! In addition, we want to welcome Mrs. Heather Tucker as she will take on the role of Principal for the 20-21 School Year as I transition to Principal of Richmond Hill High School. While the move is bittersweet, it is an opportunity to say see you later to our students as opposed to goodbye!

The month of May is here and with that brings a close to the most unprecedented school year our students and staff have ever had an opportunity to take part in! Through this entire process we have thoroughly appreciated your patience, persistence and level of commitment to an online learning environment. While none of us could have predicted this outcome in January, the embrace of the online space and dedication by staff and students has been second to none. The week of National #TeacherAppreciation falls at an appropriate time as we truly appreciate the work of each and every educator! The efforts demonstrated by staff are deserving of more than a year's praise in making this move to an online platform seamless for all included!

With live instruction officially ending on Thursday, May 14, 2020 we have received a multitude of questions and comments in regards to dropping off devices/books as well as picking up supplies, yearbooks, pictures, prizes, etc. We hope that the info graphic above will provide you as a family with the needed details to make all of this happen. Our staff has worked diligently to organize all of the belongings of our students in an orderly fashion to make this process of pickup as efficient and effective as possible.

As you continue to work through the E-Learning activities, we have created a site specific for you to access. Please refer back to this link (MES Online Learning Parent Support) as often as possible for updates, information and resources to make this opportunity successful for all.

Grading

As you can imagine, the numerous changes have required us to make decisions/changes while keeping student situations and success in mind. With input from school level staff, administrators and district level support staff the elementary schools throughout Bryan County will utilize a Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory in regards to the standards presented this school year while understanding the limitations presented through E-learning. While specific grades have not been issued during E-Learning, our teachers have been sure to provide thorough feedback throughout the process to assist students in obtaining/maintaining the skills to be successful.

We are hopeful that our students return to our buildings and have plans in place with insight from our teachers to remediate the skill gaps and/or missing instruction that this pandemic may have caused.

In the meantime, we will work to create as much normalcy as possible while also keeping our students engaged we will continue to post video links to daily announcements, themed spirit weeks and our spotlight on specials which is as follows:

Bryan County Schools will be distributing “to go” breakfast/lunch meals starting on Monday, March 23rd.

Thursday is the day for the once-a-week food pick up from Bryan County’s Meals on Wheels program. For south Bryan, the pick-up at RHHS will remain from 11:00 AM through 1:00 PM, along with the three designated bus stops in Richmond Hill on Thursday’s of each week. You will be able to get 7 days of breakfasts and lunches at this time.

• Meals are open to ALL children 18 years or younger.
• Children must be present to receive meals.

FOR CURBSIDE PICKUP:

1. Follow the signs to the pick up location.

2. Remain in your car and pull up to the delivery station.

3. The server will determine the number of meals needed.

4. The runner will get the meals to the server.

5. The server will hand them to the children/parent in the car.

6. Pull away from the curb, following the flow of traffic.

7. Be mindful of pedestrians who may be walking in the area.

8. Safely leave the school grounds.
