This year, orchestra news will be shared via weekly newsletter. Each Tuesday, you'll receive information about what is going on in orchestra class, what forms and fees are due, and calendar updates. As we develop the newsletter, the content will become more robust. Pictures of YOUR kid might even be in it, so be sure to read it every week!

Now that the school year has gotten off to a good start, it is an opportune time to share some important paperwork with you. Hard copies of these will be sent home with your students, but please know that the following are available electronically, too:

Orchestra Handbook: This short document outlines our policies and expectations.

Handbook Acknowledgement Form: Parents and students sign that they have received a handbook and understand its contents.

Fee Sheet: 6th Grade Orchestra students pay a $25 fee for the year that covers their t-shirt and some supplies. Checks are made to McMillan Orchestra. This is NOT the same as what you pay for instrument rental.

Starting on September 6, instruments can start going home. 6th graders are VERY excited to show what they know so far. Cello and bass players will need to arrange for car rides home to transport their home instruments.

Remember: violins and violas should go home AND return to school EVERY DAY! Lockers are available at McMillan for those that don't ride the bus. Bus riders have a special instrument storage area at Davis that we will show them this week.

Wylie ISD Orchestras welcome student teacher Mr. Nikit Desai this fall. Mr. Desai is completing his undergraduate degree in music education from Texas Tech University and is teaching at Davis, McMillan, and Wylie High. It is a treat to have another teacher--and viola player--around!

Wylie ISD has recently decided to change its fine arts information management system. In the past, we used a system called Charms. We have JUST changed to a wto a similar (better) system called CutTime. Look for more information about this very soon.
