A Recap of WHS Tennis Pre-season
On August 24, WHS Tennis ended their preseason tournaments and matches ending the pre-season 6-2. Roos defeated Kaufman (14-5), Brock (10-9), and Mansfield (11-8) all in the Duncanville Team Tournament and won 1st place. On their winning streak, WHS Tennis defeated Azle (10-9).
Unfortunately in a rematch against Brock, WHS Tennis lost a tough one (9-10), this made Weatherford’s season 4-1. The next day, Weatherford went and played in another tournament, a tri-meet with Brownwood and Graham High School. Weatherford lost (8-11) to Brownwood, but then proceeded to win against Graham (15-4). This made Weatherford’s pre-season out to be 5-2. Weatherford was showing some major dominance on the court.
A few days before the start of the new school year, Weatherford played a rematch with Azle. Weatherford definitely showed that their win from the previous week could only be better by ending the night with a 13-6 win, making Weatherford finish the preseason 6-2.
After coming off a great pre-season, the Roos look to further that into the start of District play. On August 27, Weatherford opened up District play against the Richland Rebels. The only wins of the match came from senior Aaron Quy winning (6-3,6-2) and sophomore Shelbi Ruthesell winning (6-4,6-2). Losing to Richland 17-2 has made the players more determined and motivated to win their next matches. Roo Tennis takes on Peaster High School this coming Tuesday with hopes of getting more preparation and practice before facing Abilene and San Angelo Central on Sept. 14th.
