Dual Language Exploration
Dual Language Exploration
We are continuing our research on offering a Dual Language Program at Larsen.
Academic Benefits
Research shows that the early acquisition of a second language enhances intellectual growth by:
Second Language Skills
Strengthening cognitive skills
Increasing a student’s ability to adapt to other types of learning
Enhancing creativity and problem-solving skills
Improving overall academic performance
Socioemotional benefits
There are also many social and emotional benefits to dual language immersion programs, including:
• Positive self-esteem
• Appreciation for linguistic and cultural differences
These abilities, along with being bilingual and biliterate, give children crucial skills to thrive in a global society.
Safety First
Please remember the safety of our students is our first priority. We need your help!
The roundabout is a drop off/pick up zone only. You should never get out of your vehicle to walk students in the roundabout. The roundabout is a single car ONLY. Drivers may never pass on the left to get out of the roundabout. Drivers must exit and drive back in.
Please make sure to follow all traffic rules. Don't block neighborhood driveways or double park. It is not SAFE for our students.
Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning Project begins at Larsen.
Families in School (FIS)
Our district has partnered with the Families in Schools Program.
Families In Schools (FIS) recognizes the value of strong family-school partnerships in supporting student achievement. Consequently, they provide programs and professional development that fosters authentic parent engagement by building the skills, knowledge and confidence of both parents and staff on how to work together. FIS serves low-income and underserved communities recognizing that access to quality education continues to be the gateway out of poverty and the road to the American dream.
Research from Chicago shows that "When schools use effective family engagement practices, students are 10 times more likely to improve their math performance and 4 times more likely to improve their reading performance." – Byrk, Sebring, Allensworth, Luppescu,& Easton, 2012
Families In Schools will collaborate with Hueneme Elementary School District by conducting 3 focus groups per school to assess and support professional learning around equitable and meaningful family engagement. We need to have different focus groups that include staff, parents and administrators. Please let us know if you are interested in participating in our family focus group.
Extended Learning Opportunity
Join The Great Kindness Challenge!
The California Department of Education, in partnership with the Great Kindness Challenge® (GKC), encourages all teachers, staff, students, and families of California schools to participate in the GKC the week of January 23–27, 2023. The GKC initiative, presented by Kids for Peace, is a global campaign that promotes kindness in kindergarten through grade twelve schools. It is a positive, action-based bullying-prevention initiative that creates a school culture of kindness, compassion, unity, and respect. It is critical that staff and students feel safe at school. Now more than ever, we all need to put safety and SEL supports at the forefront of our schools. We invite you to join nearly 17 million students who participated in over 33,000 schools in 115 countries for a positive start to 2023!
Logrando Bienestar Parent Workshops
Logrando Bienestar will be providing a series of trainings beginning in January to all our families in HESD. This three-week series will cover bullying, anxiety, and depression. We will be offering them in English at Green and in Spanish at Blackstock beginning January 17th at both sites. We will be offering them also in Mixteco beginning January 22nd at Haycox. These will be hybrid presentations and open to all families in our district. Families can join us in person or by Zoom. I am attaching the flyers for you to share with your families.
Attendance Matters
Please make sure your child is present and on time every day.
If your child is absent, please call our office at 805-986-8740 to report your absence. Bring any doctor's notes or necessary documentation to excuse any absences to the school office.
