Dear Creston Families,

Your student should have brought home paperwork to get your Fall conference scheduled. All students and their parent/guardian are invited to school between 11am - 7pm on October 1, 2019 (there is no school on this date) to attend the 15-minute conference. During the conference, parents will receive Term 1 report card, NWEA assessment score reports, and other pertinent information from the first 9-weeks of the school year!

Please reach out to your child's CORE Connect teacher if you haven't received a scheduling paper.

Please read below from Warren Superintendent, Dr. Tim Hanson:

This fall, MSD of Warren Township will be creating a comprehensive strategic plan based on community input that will ensure all students and staff have the conditions necessary to develop and apply Journey of a Graduate (JoG) skills and dispositions. The Journey of a Graduate skills are a set of 6 skills and dispositions that have been identified by our community needed for success in and out of school. The JoG skills are Critical Thinking, Citizenship, Communication, Collaboration, Content Knowledge, and Resilience. These JoG skills will serve as the foundation of the district strategic plan.

One way the district will capture community input is through an online survey. Linked below is a short survey that will ask questions around our strengths as a district and help us identify areas for improvement.

Town Hall Meetings will also be scheduled for our teachers, students, parents and community to collaborate in person. Elementary school Town Hall Meetings will be hosted by their feeder intermediate and middle school. Those meeting dates are below:

Tuesday, October 22nd, 6:00 - 7:30 at Creston Intermediate and Middle School (GC, LA, EA)

Monday, October 28th, 6:00 - 7:30 at Creston Intermediate and Middle School

Please carefully review the following reminders:

1. Any parent/guardian who needs to pick up a student or visit a classroom MUST have a valid photo ID in order for your child to be released to you. Please be prepared with this when you enter the building to sign out your child, as our receptionist will ask for it each time.
2. Should you need to notify your child of a change in their PM transportation (for example: telling them to be a bus rider, rather than a car rider) please try to notify the office prior to 3:30 p.m. in order to allow enough time for the message to reach your student.
3. We will no longer allow students to wait in the main office for a parent who calls in advance to say they are a few minutes away from campus; this presents a security risk for our students. If you need to pick up your child early from school, please budget enough time to come in, sign them out, and for our office staff to get them out of class.

September is Attendance Awareness Month. We encourage your child to attend school, every day! See below for additional details regarding attendance:

Did you know...

• that a student missing just 2 days of school per month, for 7 hours per day, for 9 months of school, amounts to missing 18 days (or 126 hours) of instruction during just one year of school?
• that attendance can influence whether children read proficiently by the end of third grade?

• that when a student's attendance rate improves, so do his or her academic prospects and chance of graduating high school?
• by 6th grade, chronic absenteeism becomes a leading indicator that a student may drop out of high school?

Please reach out to your student's grade level counselor if you need support with improving your child's attendance.

Boys basketball tryouts will begin on Monday, October 21. Tryouts will be after school until 6 pm. You must have a current athletic physical on file with Mr. Treesh in order to try out. Reminder that all physicals already turned in this school are good for the entire school year. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to the Athletic Director, Mr. Treesh. You can access the Parent Portal registration form by clicking here. You can also pick up a copy in the CIMS Office - completed forms must be turned in to the CIMS Main Office.

As a parent or guardian of a student attending a Warren school, you have online access to your child or children's courses, grades, attendance, discipline, and academic history. The student and parent portal has been upgraded to Tyler SIS Student 360. This new portal offers parents, students and district staff online access to student information via the Web on PCs or tablets or on a smartphone application — providing comprehensive functionality with a touch-friendly, intuitive interface.

You must obtain a username and password through your child's school (CIMS) in order to access your child's information. Once your information is verified (after completing the form linked above), a username and password will be generated by the school and given to you.

The book fair is coming! The fair will arrive on September 23rd and will be open thru October 1st. Scholastic now offers the eWallet. This allows family members to set up an electronic account for their child to make purchases at the fair. It's free to set up, you set the limit and unused funds are returned to your card. Take advantage of the 21st Century Scholars Opportunity. Apply online @ www.scholars.in.gov or submit the application through your school counselor. Students must sign up before June 30th during their 8th grade year.

MSD Warren Township strives to maintain a safe and orderly environment for all students while in school and at after-school events, especially our Warren Central athletic events. We ask for your support in helping us achieve this by ensuring that your intermediate and middle school student is accompanied by an adult or older Warren Central sibling, who has a WCHS student ID.

Also, for your convenience, we are including a reminder about approved items that may/may not be brought into athletic events at Warren Central High School.

The occasion may arise when the school district wants to recognize your child or your child's school. This may include your child's photo, your child's name or your child's work in district publications, newsletters, on school district websites, and in electronic/ social media or in staff training videos. We may also want to tell the media (including newspapers, television, and radio) about your child's achievements. We never knowingly release information about a student to anyone who wants to use it for commercial/ political purposes. However, we will honor your request to not include your child in these types of recognitions if you notify your child's school office in writing that you do not want this type of information released.
