The Mustang Messenger
January 13th, 2023
Greetings Mustang Families!
Happy New Year! I hope your family had a wonderful winter break. I am looking forward to great Spring Semester at Rancho Pico.
It was great to see students excited to be back at school reconnecting with their friends, and sharing stories about what they did during winter break.
Monday is a holiday in recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday.
Have a wonderful, three day weekend.
Catherine Nicholas, Ed.D.

Martin Luther King Holiday
Each year on the third Monday of January we observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day and reflect on the work that still needs to be done for racial equality. This year MLK Day is Monday, January 16th. Many make the holiday more than just a day off and take time to reflect and make it a day of service to others.

COVID Update
Each day before coming to school, evaluate your student's symptoms and take steps to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. If your student is sick with COVID-19 or thinks they might have COVID-19, follow the steps below to help protect other people in your home and community.
People with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms ranging from mild to severe illness. Some people with COVID-19 have no symptoms. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus but it may not be possible to know when or how a person got infected. People with these symptoms may have COVID-19:
- Fever or chills
- Cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Fatigue
- Muscle or body aches
- Headache
- New loss of taste or smell
- Sore throat
- Congestion or runny nose
- Nausea or vomiting
- Diarrhea
This list does not include all possible symptoms. Older adults and people who have severe underlying medical conditions like heart or lung disease or diabetes seem to be at higher risk for developing more serious complications from COVID-19 illness.
If your student has symptoms of COVID-19, regardless of vaccination status, get a COVID-19 test right away and stay home. For information on how to get a COVID-19 test, visit ph.lacounty.com/covidtests/how or contact your medical provider. COVID tests are also available at the school site.
If your student tests positive for COVID-19 or a doctor tells you that your student has COVID-19, your student must follow the Home Isolation Instructions (ph.lacounty.gov/covidisolation).
If your student tests negative for COVID-19 or your provider tells you that your student doesn't have COVID-19, your student should stay home until they have been fever-free without the help of fever-reducing medicines for at least 24 hours.
If you are a close contact to someone with COVID-19 and you have no symptoms, you do not need to quarantine. You are required to wear a highly protective mask around others for 10 days, get tested 3-5 days after the exposure, and monitor your health for 10 days. Refer to Instructions for Close Contacts (ph.lacounty.gov/covidquarantine) for the most up-to-date information.
For more information regarding how to stay safe and healthy or how to get vaccinated, visit the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health’s COVID-19 Homepage (publichealth.lacounty.gov/media/Coronavirus/).
Attendance Matters
Please remember to schedule vacations around our district calendar.
Absences can not be avoided when students are sick and must stay home. When a student is healthy, school attendance is important to academic and social/emotional success.
If your student is absent, please remember to contact Mrs. Boxall in our attendance office at X1103.
