Student Schedules
**Please note you can email your counselor; however, they are not back in the office until Tuesday, August 2nd. **
Dear Students & Parents,
Schedules for the 2022-2023 school year will be available once you complete your student’s online enrollment. Online enrollment will begin Wednesday, July 20th. Please understand that scheduling is fluid until all students are enrolled and that all schedules are still subject to change by the OHS Counseling Department and administration. If your student is wanting to request a schedule change, refer to the criteria below regarding guidelines for schedule changes.
Counselors will be available in the OHS office on Thursday, August 4th from 1-3pm and Friday, August 5th from 10am - Noon for those with schedule needs. If your student is unavailable to meet with a counselor at that time they should email their counselor to work through scheduling conflicts or to set an appointment.
Schedule changes will ONLY be granted for the following reasons:
Class needed for graduation
Class needed to fill an incomplete schedule for first semester only (Counselors will meet with students at a later date to fill second semester incomplete schedules)
Class needed to meet minimum Kansas Honors curriculum, pathway completer status, and OHS Honors designations
Scheduled in a course for which they already have credit
Enrolled in a course for which the student does not have the prerequisite
All schedules are subject to change from the OHS Counseling for the following reasons:
A change needed to balance class size
Review of transcript requires a specific schedule change
NOTE: No teacher change requests will be granted

Important Online Enrollment Information
Dear USD290 Parents,
Good news! Roll over is complete! Family and Student access is back open. This email is to explain what this means and does not mean for us right now.
What this does mean:
- You can test your Family Access account to make sure you can get in.
If you do not remember, your password there is a "Forgot password" link that you will receive an email and be able to reset it. This system allows you to login to Skyward at your convenience, enroll your student(s) (when it opens), check schedules, and make payments toward school fees and meal accounts.
- Parents can access the Food Service tab in Family Access to fill out a food service application today. Remember Dr. Cobbs let us know that congress did not extend the federal school meal waiver for 2022/23 which means all students no longer will receive meals free of charge. More reason to fill out an application to see if your family qualifies for free/reduced meals and textbook fees. If you fill out an application before registration then during registration you would mark “Do not qualify/already completed” and skip step 2. (YES, EVEN IF YOU DO QUALIFY, YOU ALREADY COMPLETED) Save some time next week!
- Fee module will be open today.
You are able to pay past fees or put money on food service account
What it Does Not mean at this time:
- Online Registration is NOT Open YET. Online registration will open next Wednesday, July 20th
- Schedules will NOT be available YET.
School Schedules for Middle school and Elementary will be coming at a later date. High School schedules can be seen in Family and Student Access after registration is completed. REGISTRATION opens July 20th

Ottawa School district online registration is opening, Wednesday, July 20th – August 12th for returning students. During that time period, logon to Skyward to access online registration through your Family Access account and select the Online Registration option, which will be located in the left-hand menu.
Instructions can be found on www.usd290.org under Students and Family Enrollment Information. https://www.usd290.org/page/enrollment-information Once you get started, please follow the form and update any information necessary for each of your students. Be sure that you complete all of the checklists.
You will have the ability to pay school fees through the online payment function. With no additional charge or processing fees! Please note that you now have the ability to pay for fees for multiple students with only one transaction.
If your student rides the bus or needs bus transportation make sure to fill out the step on the online registration for transportation.
Supply list, school calendar, immunization and enrollment information can be found on the usd290.org website.
Buildings will open with staff, August 1 for any questions.
Lunch Fee Reminder
As policies at the state and federal level continue to change I wanted to make sure that I reach out and let you know of one specifically that may impact your child(ren). Congress did not extend the federal school meal waivers for 2022/23, which means that meals will no longer be available to students free of charge. Of course families will be able to apply for free/reduced meal plans as offered prior to the waiver. Those applications will be open to families in July and will be available through the school enrollment portal.
With this decision looming, the board did approve meal costs at their meeting in May for the 2022/23 school year. Those cost are:
Breakfast
K-5……………………….…$1.80
OMS & OHS………………$1.85
Adult (non-student).............$2.45
Reduced……………………$0.30
Lunch
K-5……………………….…$2.95
OMS & OHS………………$3.00
Adult (non-student).............$4.00
Reduced……………………$0.40
Hopefully this information will help our families begin to prepare for this change. Once again, the free meal waiver was not continued by Congress and meals will no longer be provided to students free of charge.
Athletic Physicals, Medical Consent, & Concussion Forms
All forms can be located on the Ottawa High School Website by hovering over the Activities tab at the top then select Athletic Forms.

9th Grade & New Student 1/2 Day
Attention Sophomores (Class of 2025) & Juniors (Class of 2026)---- Please read regarding PSAT sign-ups!
Attention Sophomores and Juniors,
The PSAT will be offered at Ottawa High School this fall. The PSAT is a standardized test that provides practice for the ACT or SAT, feedback to better prepare for college, and potential scholarship opportunities. Juniors who take the PSAT could qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program, an academic competition for recognition and scholarships. If you are interested in taking the PSAT, please refer to the information below.
Registration: Contact Karah Gearhart at gearhartk@usd290.org by Monday, August 22nd to sign up for the PSAT.
Cost: Students need to bring $18 (cash or check payable to 'OHS') to Mrs. Coffman in the office by Friday, September 9th.
Test Date: Wednesday, October 12, 2022
Reasons to take the PSAT:
Practice: Helps prepare you for the ACT or SAT and it can help you get comfortable testing under timed conditions.
Feedback: Receive feedback on your strengths and weaknesses regarding skills necessary for college.
Scholarship Opportunities: If you are a Junior, your score might qualify you for scholarships including National Merit Scholar recognition.
Information from Colleges: Receive free information from colleges when you check 'yes' to Student Search Service.
College and Career Planning Help: Receive free access to online tools that help you plan for college and a career.
IMPORTANT: Colleges DO NOT see PSAT scores. If you score poorly on the test, it WILL NOT hurt your chances of getting into college. If anything, the PSAT will improve your chances because it provides personalized information regarding the types of skills that can be improved to be better prepared for the ACT, SAT, or college.
