Every Student Belongs
Updates from this week
This week, students in homeroom learned definitions and how to fill out an incident report. These homeroom slides, which were shared in last week's newsletter, can be viewed again here. Students can access the incident report in every Google Classroom, at the bottom of this newsletter (under Important Information), through QR codes posted around the school, by reporting verbally to a counselor or administrator, on the official high school webpage, or through the link in bio @corbett.hs Instagram account.
This week, the high school administrators (Childress and Duprey) along with the counseling staff (Pekny and Boykins) will be leading grade-level assemblies to review the information and consequences related to Every Student Belongs. The slides that will be used at the assemblies can be viewed here. These are the same slides that were presented at Wednesday's Principal Chat and that will be shared with the school board on Wednesday, December 20. The assembly for juniors and seniors will take place on Monday during homeroom. The sophomore assembly will be during homeroom on Tuesday, and the ninth grade assembly will be during Wednesday's homeroom. The exit ticket that students will complete after the assembly can be viewed here.
A special thank you to the students that shared about their experiences at the Principal Chat, and to the families that attended.
Staff Spotlight
Sarah McIntyre, Spanish Teacher
Q: What was your first paying job?
A: When I was 15 I worked as a waitress at a restaurant for $3 an hour. I got to keep my tips in cash, but if the tips were in change, I had to give them to 'the kitty' (a little piggy bank). Basically, they took my tips. My friend would pick me up after and we'd share orange chicken. Those were fun times!
Q: What is your favorite animal?
A: My favorite animal is my dog, Bear. He's probably the nicest 'person' in the world; he never argues, complains, and is always up for a cuddle. If you're ever in a bad mood, just spend some time with Bear.
Q: What's the best place you've travelled to?
A: I traveled to Chiapas, Mexico once and saw a herd of wild horses running across a field in the sunset. That was 20 years ago and I still remember it!
Q: Do you have any hidden talents or hobbies?
A: I like to read children's storybooks aloud and am pretty good at it. I read all seven Harry Potter's to my son. Also, I like to sketch but I'm not nearly as good as my students.
Q: What's your favorite food?
A: I love nachos and actually make them quite regularly. I also like the kid food I grew up with: peanut butter and jelly and cereal.
December Students of the Month
Senior Ellie Mason
- Ellie Mason is extremely helpful and attentive in class. She asks thoughtful questions during independent work and always has a positive demeanor. She’s an absolute delight to teach! (Bassell)
- Ellie is a great student with a positive attitude. (Cease)
Junior Josh Bell-Davis

- Josh has a bright and infectious attitude and I really enjoy his willingness to participate in class! (Cooper)
- Josh has transitioned faster this school year and has participated in assignments longer than he has from last year. Lastly, Josh never cleans and this year has started to clean consistently. (Chancellor)
Sophomore Alana Wilburn
- I have been very impressed with Alana in Spanish class this year! Alana has always been an excellent student but it's become apparent how much that is paying off by her Spanish acquisition. ¡Excelente trabajo! ¡Bien merecida! (Wise)
Alana is an excellent thinker and writer who has, on multiple occasions, crafted analysis that no one in the class (including me) had yet seen. She is calm, hardworking, and mature beyond her years. It has been an absolute pleasure to have her in class the last two years. (LK)
9th Grader Greyson Aho
- Greyson is a focused and hard working student. I am especially grateful for his willingness to help his classmates and the positive example he sets. (Rondema)
- Greyson always brings a good attitude to class and his kindness and positive energy are infectious. (Z. Young)

- Greyson is great to have in class. He's a great student, a good role model, and makes our class a more positive learning environment. (McIntyre)
Spirit Week
Student Leadership selected the following spirit days for Spirit Week, December 18-21. Wear your jersey on Monday. On Tuesday, wear as much green as you can to celebrate Grinch Day. Wednesday's PJ Day should be cozy and comfortable. On Thursday, pull that ugly sweater out of your closet and wear it all day. Questions about spirit days should be directed to the Leadership Advisor, Ms. Ducey (jducey@corbett.k12.or.us)
Esports competes in finals on Thursday, 12/15
Team finishes second in league
The Corbett High School Esports team competed in the West Coast High School Regional finals hosted by Vanta Gaming on Thursday 12/15. The Corbett team finished second in the league with their only losses going to California Virtual Academy (the only undefeated team for the fall season).
The season ended with an impressive 10-3 record. The team will continue to practice periodically to prepare for the upcoming season where they will compete against schools in the East Metro area starting in February. "I hope we can place even better and take the W. I also hope that we get a lot of practice time as I know we often miss a lot of school in February," explained senior Lizzie Loveland.
According to Loveland, "The best part of esports is I get to play video games with my friends and actually win things from it." High school and middle school students interested in joining the team for the upcoming season should speak with Mr. Binschus (rbinschus@corbett.k12.or.us).
