It's Google Time
PLCS...Google Great
What’s all this talk about Google?
PLCS will slowly be transitioning to the Google platform away from Office 365. For some this news is super exciting and way overdue. For others, this news is scary and creates lots of questions. Over the next 10 weeks you will be receiving this weekly “Friday Google Facts”. The goal of this publication is to answer your questions and fully explain the transition plan to Google. We want to give every staff member the tools they need to help make this transition as smooth as possible.
Questions & Answers
What does the transition to Google mean?
There are lots of pieces to this transition such as:
- Email, calendar and contacts
- Software in the Microsoft Office suite like word, excel, ppt and more
- Files that are currently stored in One Drive or One Note
It is important to note that everything will not transition immediately, and some pieces may never transition for everyone. The first phase of the transition will happen on April 27 and will include email, calendar and contacts only. Other phases of the transition will be announced at a later time.
Will I lose all of my emails currently in Outlook?
No. All of your emails including your email folders that you may be using to file emails, will be moved to Google for you over the weekend of April 24. When you come to work on April 27 you will have Gmail instead of Outlook. This transition will include your email, calendar and contacts. EVERYTHING will be moved for you over the weekend.
I’ve never used Gmail. How will I know what to do?
There is an in-depth training plan that will be rolled out for all staff the week of April 20. That week every staff member will be given training on using Gmail to access your email, calendar and contacts. There will also be ongoing technical support available to assist you through the transition.
I have a Gmail account. Can I start using it and moving documents?
No. Please do not create anything ahead of time. Migration services and support will be provided by the District. Your PLCS assigned Google account will be different than a personal Google account.
