Principal's Update

One week of e-learning is under our belts and I'd say it went pretty well. Students, teachers and administrators alike have learned new things, found issues, created solutions, and are troubleshooting everyday... together.

I hope that among doing your school work, you are finding time to explore new interests, talk to friends, read a book and enjoying whatever sunshine happens to peak through the clouds every now and again. Your health, both mental and physical, are extremely important during these days of quarantine. It's important to do the things you love, be with the people who care about you and remember the important things in life are family and friendships.

BHS is like a family for many of you, a safe place to grow, learn, socialize and be who you really are. If you are struggling being at home, please reach out to your teachers, your counselors, and your friends. It's tough being a teenager, it's ever tougher when you're a teenager stuck at home during a pandemic. Please don't hesitate to reach out, we care about you and would love to talk to you!

If you are a student who requested paper copies of your work you need to pick those labeled materials up from the bottom drawer of the file cabinet located in front of the high school under the overhang on the east side of the competition gym. This work is essential for students to complete the school year and earn credits. It can then be turned in when finished in the top slot of the same file cabinet.

Friday - All Elective Courses (Art, Band, Spanish, PE & Health, Seminar, Tech, Transitions)

Ms. Southwell and Mr. Pearson will be available Monday - Friday in a virtual ASA Google Hangout from 1 p.m. until 2p.m. They will be there in real time to help with class work, a friendly chat or with any issues you may be having. Each student can access ASA by going to their personal BHS calendar and clicking on the link for that day or by contacting Ms. Southwell or Mr. Pearson directly for the link.

Thank you to our awesome administrative assistants that help keep BHS moving! We wish we could thank them in person, so we hope a digital bouquet of flowers, some chocolate and a smiley face be enough for now!

We are currently preparing for 8th graders to pick up their locker belongings on Monday, April 27th from 8:00 am-noon on the front lawn of the high school on Chicago St. We will schedule another pick-up date for those items that are left. We will schedule more dates in the future for other grades.

If you need access to the Internet to complete any of your coursework, our Tech Team has installed access points in the parking lot of our building. Students should park in the high school student parking lot and your district provided device will automatically connect to the High School hotspot. If you are using your own device, you may connect to the BCS_GUEST network at any of our four campuses. The free guest network is available to everyone and does not require a username or password. The Internet provided through this service is filtered the same as it would be if the student using were using a computer inside the building. If anyone should experience problems connecting, they may contact the Help Desk through email at helpdesk@buchananschools.com or phone at 269-695-8428.

If you need to contact the school by phone, please be sure you use Option 1 or Option 2 only. Emails are best as they can be checked more regularly from home offices.
