Black History Art and Essay Contest
Participation in the contest is voluntary, but we hope you will encourage your students to engage, investigate, and use their creativity in this contest.
Theme for the 2023 Art and Essay Contest:
“I’m Me and I’m Magnificent: Turning our differences into superpowers”
How can students participate?
- Students can participate as individuals by submitting an art entry and/or an essay. There will not be the ability for small groups of students to submit any entries this year.
- There will be one prize awarded per grade level (gift cards).
- Three overarching winners will each receive a pair of airpods!
Full classroom participation is encouraged through a video format.
- The classroom that wins the contest by creatively focusing on the theme within a video will be given a class pizza party.
Important dates (timeline):
- The contest will begin on February 1 and run through February 22.
- Entries should be turned into each school’s main office by the end of the day February 22.
- The district office will collect all entries on February 23.
- BCDR will pick up all entries on February 24 with judging taking place on February 25.
- Winners will be announced shortly after!

Jelly Donut Difference
Mrs. Trewyn-Way's class read, "The Jelly Donut Difference" for kindness week which focuses on Leah and Dexter, a brother and sister who don’t always get along, but eventually learn about kindness and generosity., We created our own jelly donuts and sprinkled them with kind words. We also wrote about how we can spread kindness.

Kids Heart Challenge
This year, our families will soar to new heights with our Heart Hero Dragons! They will take our students on an AMAZING adventure around the globe to learn about heart and brain health, meet kids with special hearts, and raise funds for the health of all hearts. Our students will feel good by doing good, knowing they made a difference for kids just like them!
