Eight SHS students traveled to Rapid City last weekend for the prestigious All-State Chorus rehearsals and concert. If you missed the televised concert, it will be rebroadcast on PBS on Thanksgiving Day.

The quartet of Riley, Reed, Taylor and Kate will also be performing the National Anthem at the State Football Championship games in Vermillion next week. Be sure to check out these talented students!

Students in Spanish I-III have been busy learning about the different practices and products associated with Day of the Dead. Spanish I spent the week constructing shoebox ofrendas highlighting the lives of famous people from the Spanish-speaking world. Spanish II and III made and flew kites in the fashion of those used in Guatemala to commemorate the holiday.

Infection is the most common side effect of piercing...especially if the piercing is not performed with aseptic technique but rather at home. Piercing around the nose and mouth poses a great risk because of the increased bacteria that is located around those areas. Infection has the potential to lead to an abscess. If an infection or abscess is left untreated, it can lead to sepsis, organ failure, and even death. Other risks of self-piercing include swelling around the site, formation of a keloid around the piercing, and bleeding from a damaged blood vessel. It is important to understand the risks and weigh the pros and cons to self-piercing versus having it done by a professional.

Students in Mrs. Goodhart's Geometry class used their knowledge of transformations to create a floor plan of an apartment building. Their plans were then voted on by the seniors. Pictured are winners Delb and Carson with their apartment complex "La La Land."
