Our Mission:
Principal's Message
On Tuesday we will celebrate our seniors who have earned awards and scholarships at our Evening of Excellence. It has been a four-year span that no one could have predicted. Our seniors have pushed through and I am excited they will be able to celebrate with a prom this weekend and graduation on June 9th.
As we look ahead to the final days of the school year there are some changes to the bell schedule next week (on June 8th and June 10th). Both days have special schedules so we can provide a senior farewell and carnival on June 8th. Our leadership class is looking forward to bringing this tradition back as well as we celebrate the seniors on their last day.
If you have any questions about events taking place on campus or what to expect at the end of the year, please contact me by email at dforbes@meridian.wednet.edu or by phone at 360-398-8111.
Go Trojans!

Teacher Feature
Paige Shumway - EL
Mrs. Shumway has worked at Meridian for 23 years and she says her favorite thing about Meridian is the variety of students that we have. She got to see so many different perspectives of different places through her students. Mrs. Shumway became a teacher because she had really great teachers in her freshman year and her mom was also a teacher. When Mrs. Shumway was young, she used to travel a lot, she even went to school in Greece. In her adult years she taught in Turkey for two years, and eventually she settled down in Washington after marrying her husband. In all her years of teaching Mrs. Shumway says she loves the energy kids have, and how they're all different. Mrs. Shumway says her favorite free time activities are spending time with her family, going camping, paddle boarding, cooking and gardening. She loves cooking for her family. A while ago Mrs. Shumway took a couple years off of teaching and had a non profit organization for disabled people where they took them for outings. She also wanted to share that Meridian has been a wonderful place to work, and she wants to say to all her students that they should try to stretch themselves further than they usually would. She also wanted to use this opportunity to say come pick berries at Shumway Farm, they have all types of berries. Mrs. Shumway's highlight from working at Meridian High School is mostly how she got to meet so many students and got to show, learn and teach about other world cultures. Students say that their favorite thing about Mrs. Shumway is "she's very helpful in all situations," "she has a lot of positive energy," and "she's very supportive."
Teacher Feature is provided by Bhavnoor Dhatt. Bhavnoor is a leadership student that will be providing the Teacher Feature as part of her personal project for Leadership class.
National Doughnut Day
National Donut Day falls each year on the first Friday of June. This year National Donut Day falls on June 4.
The origins of National Donut Day are traced to The Salvation Army’s involvement in World War I. During this time, a group of volunteers was dispatched to the frontlines with the mission of providing comforting meals for the troops. They soon found out that donuts were an effective way to provide food while navigating the difficulties of cooking in very dire circumstances. These brave volunteers would later be known as “donut lassies”. They would even use war helmets as a utensil to fry up seven donuts at a time.
In 1938 “Donut Day” was established as a way to honor the members of the Salvation Army that came to the aid of soldiers during World War I. Nowadays, National Donut Day is widely celebrated on the first Friday of June. Many donut shops are known to give them our for free, giving a good reason to take some time out of the day to enjoy this most cherished treat.
Request Transcripts Through Parchment
Meridian High School has partnered with parchment.com to fulfill transcript requests for current students and MHS alumni. Transcripts are securely sent electronically to colleges and universities across the nation, resulting in a reduction of lost documents at the financial aid offices. The service is free of charge to current students. Alumni pay a small fee. Please make sure that your intended college accepts electronic transcripts.
Please find the “Order transcripts through Parchment” link under Families & Students/Resources on the MHS website. Current students may call Mrs. Brinkman or Mrs. Waterman to receive their Parchment access code at the MHS office 360-398-8111.
