#PointerNation Wrestling is State Bound! Mineral Point will send six wrestlers as Sectional Champions to the WIAA Individual State Tournament at the Kohl Center in Madison -- great job!

Mineral Point recently began our journey on Sources of Strength! We have trained some adult advisors, and took eight high school and eight middle school students to a Sources of Strength Regional Retreat at UW-Platteville. March 1 we will be inviting a National Sources of Strength Trainer to train roughly 60 high school and middle school students!

Sources of Strength is a best practice youth mental health promotion and suicide prevention program designed to harness the power of peer social networks to create healthy norms and culture, ultimately preventing suicide, violence, bullying, and substance misuse. The mission of Sources of Strength is to prevent adverse outcomes by increasing wellbeing, help-seeking, resiliency, healthy coping, and belonging. Sources of Strength moves beyond a singular focus on risk factors by utilizing an upstream approach for youth suicide prevention. This upstream model strengthens multiple sources of support, or protective factors, for young people so that when times get hard, they have strengths to rely on.

Our Middle School's Kindness Club is promoting and creating a culture of kindness in our school. Each week we will be giving a 'shoutout' to students caught being kind. Congrats to Aaliyah Peterson! Aaliyah was caught helping a peer stay engaged and participative in choir class, using positivity and encouragement.

Long ago, Mrs. McGuire had Lily’s uncle, Carter Stephenson, in class. That year Carter, with the help of his Grandpa Bob Regan, made this special Valentine for her! Now, Carter is all grown up with a family of his own and guess what? He’s a builder! Grandpa Bob has since passed away, but this special Valentine lasts on and on. Thanks for the memories!

Middle School students are spreading love this Valentine's Day! During advisory, all middle school students made cards for local residents of Mineral Point Health Services, Sienna Crest Memory Care, and Upland Hills Health Hospital & Nursing Home.

Middle school students have been enjoying the newly created Chess Club during lunch!

Elementary Librarian Micki Uppena and Elementary Principal Matt Renwick had the honor of sharing the #PointerNation story at the Wisconsin State Reading Association Conference recently in Milwaukee! Their session was titled "Empowering Students as Literacy Leaders: Forming a Student Book Budget Team."

1st graders traveled to Tanzania to learn about Jane Goodall!

Middle School Game Club kicked off recently! Students had a great time connecting with others and playing board games. Our next Game Club will be Tuesday, February 28 after school from 3:30-4:30 pm.

Update: Due to possible inclement weather, the next Mineral Point Early Childhood Development Screening will now take place Wednesday, March 1! If you signed up for a time on the original date of 2/22, and this time no longer works for you on 3/1, please call 608-987-0739 ext. 127. Otherwise, you can come at your previously scheduled time. This screening is open to children who were born between the dates of 9/1/19 and 8/31/20. We look forward to welcoming everyone!

The Mineral Point High School Football team is looking for three Assistant Coaches (one JV Defensive Coordinator and two Program Assistants) for the 2023 Football season. Candidates must be available Monday through Friday after school for practices and games. They will have a staff meeting on Sundays as well during the season. Practice will start for the season on August 1st and will end in November. Coaches must be able to lead or assist in an offensive or defensive position group. Coaches must be good role models, have high integrity, and be able to communicate with all staff and students at a high level. Coaches will need to be able to lead the JV team and Freshman team if games are available for the Freshmen. Other duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: weight room supervision, locker room supervision, and bus supervision. Each position is paid by either the school or the Gridiron Club. Please send a resume and a letter of interest to Athletic Director Vickie Dahl at vickie.dahl@mp.k12.wi.us by March 1.
