The Viking Voyager
September 8, 2023
From the Principal's Desk
With the start of school and football it officially feels like fall! (GO BEARS!) This week and next week students are completing the MAP benchmark assessment and those results will be sent home in the coming weeks. It is exciting for us to see what they already know, and when we take the test again in the spring, it is amazing to see our students' growth! Each newsletter moving forward I will include a brief staff spotlight so you can get to know the faces of our campus.
This week is Ms. Ross and Mrs. Abrazaldo who you may recognize as the two faces you see every morning greeting our K-1 students as they enter the building!
Please don't forget that curriculum night is next week from 6-7pm! 1st grade parents will start in the gym and PK/Kindergarten families will start in classrooms. Then at 6:30 we switch! The purpose of curriculum night is to provide an overview of the school curriculum and to give parents the opportunity to meet all of the teachers your children will be working with this year.
We hope to see you there.
Have a great weekend Viking families!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Scanlan
Ms. Ross
Ms. Ross is our Library Media Center/Tech. Assistant. Each week she leads story time in the library with students and facilitates book check outs. She is also our tech guru! She helps us take care of our chrome books and repair them if necessary. If anyone is having an issue with their smart boards or computers staff will go to Ms. Ross first! We are so thankful to have her assist with any online testing that needs to be completed as well. A few things about Ms. Ross:
1) Her favorite color is green.
2) Her favorite sport is soccer.
3) She loves music by Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran.
Mrs. Abrazaldo
1) Her favorite color is pink.
2) Her favorite sports teams are the Bears and Bulls.
3) Her favorite TV show is Seinfeld.
Arrival and Dismissal Reminders
AM Drop Off - Please make sure you are aware of surroundings when crossing the bus lane. We have monitors to help direct the buses but it is safest for parents to walk with their child across the lane to the front entrance of the school.
PM Pick Up- Elmhurst PD continues to support the current dismissal plan we follow. Thank you to all of our parents for following the plan so we can ensure the safety of everyone! Please remember there are two options for picking up your children at the end of the day.
If you park and walk up to the sidewalk, we can hand your student over to you. If you are in the car lane, please STAY NEAR YOUR VEHICLE. We can't get the line moving until the blacktop is clear, if you stay near your car, you child will come to you and you can assist them in loading and be ready to move the line. Out goal is to dismiss the car line before we need to stop for buses to load.
Cars cannot pass the buses when they are actively loading unless an officer is on site to direct the traffic. Our resource officer was present a few days this last week, but she serves all Elmhurst schools so passing the buses will not be possible on a daily basis.
The faster we can clear the car lane, the better! But we thank you for your patience if buses begin to load before the car line can exit.
SAFE SPEEDS! We also want to remind any car pick ups that Riverside Dr. does not have sidewalks. We do have families that live in the neighborhood behind the school that walk to and from the building. Please make sure you are being vigilant and taking care to drive slowly and safely on Riverside Dr. when leaving the parking lot.

Please see below for RevTrak payments. You can also come in and make payment by cash or check to any school in our district.
Thank you in advance.
A New Way to Pay Fees in Skyward
NO MORE E-PAY! We have rolled out a new way to pay for lunches, school fees and activity fees for students. You can sign up here https://saltcreek48.revtrak.net/. Or you can go to your parent portal in skyward, click on the fee payment tile, then in the far right hand top corner click on the "make online payments" button. This will take you to Revtrak. Make sure to sign up before you try to make payment. Once you can sign in, click the Make a Payment button in the middle of the page. This new service will streamline the payments so you can make a payment or set up recurring payments. This is directly connected to Skyward so you see the money immediately go to your child's account. If you have any questions please email or call your school office.
Preschool Payments: Once in Revtrak you will see in the upper right area an arrow next to SHOP. Click the arrow and pick Preschool in order for you to complete your payment. If you have any questions please email or call the Salt Creek school office.
