Principal's Message

Sunny Heights Families,

Despite only 4 days of school we had an AWESOME week at Sunny Heights Elementary! Students learned about Martin Luther King Jr., practiced for ILEARN, staff learned about indoor recess games, we had a great showing at Chuckie Cheese, and much more! Tomorrow morning, Saturday, is the Legislative Forum hosted by Warren at the WECC. Start time is 9:00am. Next Thursday is our Read With Dads program in the morning here at Sunny Heights.

Exciting things continue to happen everyday so be sure to get your students here on time every day! Let us know what we can do to support you and your family!

It's that time of year when school can be delayed or closed due to weather conditions. If there is a delay or closing, you will receive a call from our automated calling system to the phone number you provided to our school. Please be sure the office has your current phone number.

Does your child want to be an actor?

The Warren Arts and Education Foundation invites Warren Township Students K-8 to audition for King Arthur’s Quest directed by Missoula Children’s Theater. Auditions are Monday February 4th @ 4:30pm in the auditorium at Creston Middle School, 10925 E Prospect Street. Students who are cast must be available to rehearse Monday Feb 4th- Friday Feb 8th from 4:30-9:00pm and ALL day Saturday Feb. 9th for dress rehearsal and performances at 3 and 7p.m. This opportunity is free to students, there is a $5.00 admission fee to attend performances on Saturday. WINTER OUTDOOR RECESS

It is that time of year when we need reminders to make sure our children have appropriate clothing for recess. We will be going outside for recess if the temperature and the wind chill are above 20 degrees.

If a student has accrued a substantial balance, the student will be provided a choice of two alternate meals at a reduced rate of $0.50. Parents may check student account balances by using the link provided to the Lunch Parent Portal.

A NOTE FROM NURSE ROBERTA

Flu season is here. Your child's health is very important. Sometimes it's hard to tell if your child has the flu. Common symptoms include coughing, fever and chills. A fever can increase in just a few hours to very high levels. If your child is sick it is very important to keep them hydrated. Some examples include: water, Popsicles, juice, Pedialyte and Gatorade. Children, elderly and anyone who has chronic conditions (asthma, diabetes, heart disease) are more at risk from the flu. Flu can go into pneumonia which can be very dangerous. A child does not have to look sick to be sick. I am here as a resource for you. If you have questions or concerns, please give me a call at 317-532-2903.

CLASSROOM VISITS

In an effort to keep all children safe, anyone wanting to visit the classroom, have lunch with a child, and/or go on field trips must come to the school office to complete a background check. Please bring ID at that time. Visits are limited to 15 min. throughout the day. During those 15 min., parents are not able to talk with teachers. We do not want to interrupt class time. If you would like to meet with the teacher, schedule a meeting with the teacher prior to your visiting the school.

PTA

It is never to late to join our PTA. Joining the PTA allows you and your family to meet some great people. PTA functions are opportunities to meet other parents and teachers, to build a rapport and discuss issues that are on your mind. $7.00 is all it takes to become a member. Please ask your child's teacher for more information.
