Welcome Back Students and Parents
Dear Cardinal Parents and Students,
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! The MacArthur Family and district leadership are working diligently to prepare for a successful school year and being a game changer in your student’s life. Whether you have chosen in-person learning or remote learning, we have set two goals at MacArthur. First, we will provide a safe environment for students and staff. Secondly, we will provide engaging instruction that spurs the continued learning and advancement of our students.
As we kick-off the school year, I have included information that may be helpful to you.
Thank you for choosing MacArthur and we look forward to serving our community.

Student Attendance
Student attendance is one of the most important indicators. All students will be required to log in to Canvas each day of remote learning as this is how attendance will be taken. Students must engage in Canvas daily for every course for the assigned day. A student cannot simply log in and log out and expect to be counted present.
First Look at School and schedule Aug 17 - September 4th Remote Learning
First 2 Days of School: August 17 and 18:
Students should check their Irving ISD student email Sunday evening to access teachers’ Zoom rooms for synchronous classes for Monday and Tuesday. It is highly encouraged that students follow the bell schedule and log in to each class. Teachers will be available to introduce themselves, go over expectations, and answer any questions the student might have.
Daily Schedule: August 17 – September 4 - Remote Learning
Remote learning will look different from last spring. Remote learning is more robust and differentiated to meet students' learning needs. All classes will be asynchronous, but teachers will be available each period during the time shown below (Synchronous / Small Group (Live)). I highly encourage students to login during these times to interact with their teacher. Teachers will be conducting direct instruction, interventions/enrichment, and/or tutorials during this time.

Students will receive 5 breakfast meals and 5 lunch meals. A student ID badge or student ID# or barcode letter sent from Food Services (email and regular mail) will be required, since students will now receive meals based on their eligibility, per USDA regulations.
Students in high school will receive breakfast free of charge under the Universal Free Breakfast program, but lunches will be charged at either the paid, reduced or free rate, depending on student eligibility.

Canvas
CANVAS (Learning Management System)
Irving ISD is implementing a new learning management system called Canvas for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Canvas is a one-stop digital classroom to view assignments, communicate with teachers, and check student grades.
Parents, we encourage you to view the training modules before the first day of school. The training modules can be viewed in English at www.irvingisd.net/studentcanvas or in Spanish at www.irvingisd.net/canvasestudiantes. Beginning Thursday, August 13, the district will also offer several Canvas webinars for parents in both English and Spanish. The webinars are free and the links to the webinars can be found at the sites listed above.
How to Access Canvas:
To access Canvas, students will visit http://irvingisd.net/students and select Instructional Resources (LaunchPad) found under Student Tools and Resources. If prompted to login, students will use their Irving ISD network ID and password. LaunchPad allows students to access all Irving ISD applications, including Canvas.
If a student needs to reset his or her password, students can visit, https://www.irvingisd.net/studentpassword.
