Newsletter September 2020
PEACEFUL, RESPECTFUL, OUTSTANDING LEADERS!
Our school is filled with awesome student leaders! The 5th and 6th grade students have truly been amazing and we are enjoying having the opportunity to work with them. The first week was filled with many exciting events to help us get to know our students and provide opportunities for them to get back into school mode. They have enjoyed socializing with friends, becoming a house member, and participated in a PBS matrix walk to help them continue to be peaceful, respectful and outstanding leaders.
Thank you parents and guardians for helping to make the first weeks of the 20-21 school year very successful. Your continued support, patience and grace is appreciated. As we continue to move forward please know the faculty and staff are committed to your child's safety and well-being! We are here for you and are looking forward to a great school year!
Sincerely,
5th and 6th Grade Center Admin Team:
Susan Long, Russ Dial, and Michelle Gilmer

ARRIVAL / DISMISSAL Procedures
Friendly reminder that doors open in the morning at 7:15a.m. We ask that the morning car riders are ready to unload upon arrival to school. This helps to keep the line moving. Thank you for respecting the buses should you arrive at the same time and pulling forward to the yellow line crossing driveway. In addition, cars may unload along the inside lane closest to the side walk as soon as possible. Please do not wait to get out of the car until reaching the front door area.
DISMISSAL:
Final Bell rings at 2:50 every day except for our Early Release Wednesday which is at 1:20.
We sincerely appreciate your patience and help with the afternoon car line. Our goal is to dismiss students safely. Thank you for displaying the NAME CARD in the dashboard for easy visibility. If you did not receive a name card, please let us know and we will send one home with your child.
Counselor Connections
In September, Mrs. Sparlin 5th Grade Counselor will be having all 5th graders complete a love language survey. Learning our students primary love language will help to create stronger relationships. The five love languages are Words of Affirmation, Acts of Service, Receiving Gifts, Quality Time, and Physical Touch Please feel free to go to https://www.5lovelanguages.com/quizzes/child-quiz/ to learn more.
6th grade students will participate in a cyberbullying lesson with Miss Polk. Students will watch a few short clips and then have open discussion with Miss Polk regarding cyberbullying. If you would like to learn more visit: https://www.missingkids.org/netsmartz/resources#tipsheets
We start each morning with a Mindful Moment to help everyone have a positive and relaxing start to their day. In addition to this teachers have created and shared ZONES OF REGULATION in every classroom. Although each classroom may look different the underlying concept is the same. This strategy is a way to determine whether the students are regulated and ready to learn. Regulation zones provide students an opportunity to express what zone or zones they represent throughout the day. Teachers are also modeling their zone of regulation and helping to teach successful strategies.
