Another term has come to an end and the holidays are upon us again. It has been a very productive term with lots of educational experiences accessed by all students. We had students participating in the NAPLAN tests towards the beginning of the term; there were excursions to La Perouse, the zoo and Sir Joseph Banks Park; Onesie Day; Reconciliation Week activities; NAIDOC performances; Cross Country Carnivals; Winter PSSA; Debating Competitions; Multicultural Public Speaking Competitions; Band Performances and the Seymour Centre Dance Festival.
Term 3 also has some great things to look forward to - Showcase Dance, Athletics Carnival, Big Band Bash, Debating Final, Dance Fever and School Photos to name a few. More information about these events will be sent out next term. Students return to school on Tuesday 19th July.
Good luck to our Senior Band and Mr Christmas who will be performing at Bandfest on Wednesday afternoon.

* Stage 1 Excursion to the zoo on Tuesday
* NAIDOC morning tea and assembly on Wednesday
* Bandfest on Wednesday @ 2:30pm

NAIDOC Week Assembly
This week, our school will be celebrating NAIDOC Week. Each class will participate in activities to develop their understanding of the significance of this week. On Wednesday, there will be a NAIDOC morning tea in the office area from 11am. Parents are invited to attend. Following the morning tea will be a NAIDOC Assembly. This assembly will be run by our students, some of whom will be performing items.
On Thursday, all students form Preschool to Year 6 will watch a performance by Ryka Ali in the hall. Ryka's heritage stems from the Wuthathi tribe of Shellburne Bay, Cape York and from the Torres Strait Islands. He is a winner in the Young, Black and Deadly Talent Quest and is a very proud ambassador for Australia’s Indigenous youth. There is no cost for this performance.
There will be no Zen Martial Arts program this Thursday due to this performance. Students in Years 3-6 will participate in a 'make up' lesson on Thursday in Week 1 next term. Friday's gymnastics lessons will be held as normal.
Kindergarten- Year 2 Choir
The students in K-2 have been participating in choir lessons this term under the guidance of their teachers from the Australian Children's Music Foundation. They will be performing a special song they have prepared during the NAIDOC Week assembly. Parents are welcome to come along to watch from 11.50am.
Election Day Cake Stall
Voting for the Federal Election will take place in the Banksmeadow Public School Hall on Saturday 2nd July. Please note that there will be no voting in the Preschool this year.
The P&C will be holding a cake stall on Election Day. We need volunteers to help with the stall on the day - please contact Sarah Monahas on 0412 017 292 or email bpspandc@hotmail.com if you can help.
We also need donations of cakes/biscuits/slices/muffins/sweets and all yummy baked goodies! Please bring your baked goodies to school on Friday and leave in the office area, or bring on the day. THANK YOU!"
Dance News
Congratulations to our Senior dancers who performed brilliantly last Monday at the NSW Public Schools Dance Festival at the Seymour Centre. Our dance parents and teachers were very proud of the girls and there were reports many heard audience members from other schools commenting how entertaining we were, so it was lovely to get such great feedback. Well done to Miss Vicki and Mrs Bragg for their work in preparing the group for the performance. Congratulations to Taylise Hodder in Year 5 who also performed in one of the Primary Schools Dance ensembles on Tuesday evening. Thank you to the parents for their support of dance at the school.
There will be NO dance rehearsals this week for either the Junior or Senior dance groups. There WILL be a Junior dance rehearsal on the first Tuesday back after the school holidays (19th July) .
Both the Junior and Senior dance groups will be performing at school for Education Week in Week 3 of next term, as well at Showcase at Souths Juniors on the evening of Tuesday 16th August. Parents are reminded to ensure that all dance lesson fees are paid for the term.
Home Readers
The P & C have kindly donated funds towards the purchase of some new home readers. The orders have now arrived. We need some assistance in covering the books in contact to protect them before they are ready to be sent home. If you are able to assist with some book covering over the school holidays, please come into the school office and see Karon Prentis to collect a bag of books and some contact. Thank you
Dance Fever
Our Dance Fever program will be held on Mondays in Term 3, for students in Kindergarten - Year 6. A note will be sent home this week with details about the program and the cost for the term. The students in Years 3-6 will again be invited to represent the school in an inter school competition at the end of the term. Lessons will begin in Week 2 of Term 3 and permission notes will need to be received by then. Payment will be due by Week 3.
Cybersafety
Last Wednesday's presentation by the Youth Liaison Officer from Mascot Police was very informative. If you were unable to make it on the night, see below for some key tips for parents to consider to ensure the safety of children when on the Internet. If at any time you have a concern with interactions that occur between members of our school, please let the teachers know immediately. The school has a responsibility to manage cyber-related incidents that occur between members of our school, even when they occur outside of school time.
* Speak with your child about the importance of never chatting or sharing information with a stranger over the Internet
* Do not allow your child to have an Internet-enabled device in their bedroom. It is safe practice to have computers, iPads, etc, used only in an area that is highly visible so that you can keep an eye on the sites that your child is accessing
* Set restrictions on your child's device to limit the access they have to sites
* Check the history of your child's accounts regularly
* Remind your child that if any person posts a comment that makes them feel uncomfortable or is inappropriate, they should let you know immediately
* Never post private information, including school, address, sporting teams, etc
* Anything posted to the Internet is there forever, regardless of if it is deleted from the site
* Anything that is posted on the Internet (social media sites, emails, etc) is the responsibility of the person whose name appears on the profile. You should never give a user name or password to anyone, nor allow another person access to your accounts
* The majority of social media sites have terms and conditions that explicitly state that only persons over the age of 13 years are permitted to sign up for an account
