Why did you choose Hope High School Online?
When I first moved to Arizona, I was looking for a school that was right for me. I had moved all over the place, so being in a new school wasn't new to me. I chose HHSO because the way the school works seemed to fit what I wanted as a student, as I always wanted to be able to work at my own pace.
What have you learned or discovered about yourself while you have been at Hope High School Online?
Since I started going to school here in October of 2019, I've worked hard to always ensure that I obtain my 25 hours a week and never finish my classes late. I always thought that I was lazy but the HHSO system has taught me a lot of responsibility and has made me realize that I can be hard working and responsible. This motivated me to get a job, and I now work my day job at Pizza Hut while still doing school!
What is a challenge you overcame while being at HHSO and how did you overcome it?
I went through a slump of being very unmotivated at one point. I didn't feel like doing any schoolwork at all, however I still did. The way I got out of the slump was by reminding myself that I'm pretty lucky compared to other students because I can do all of my schoolwork from the comfort of my own bedroom. I also reminded myself that I have a bright future to chase, and I must work hard if I want to reach it. One slump wasn't going to keep me down for long!
Advice I would give to new/current students
To a new student I would say this: Don't be afraid to reach out to your teachers. They're all very nice and would love to help you! It's always easy to reach out to them or even your academic coach with any question, because no question is a dumb question. Also, feel free to work around whatever schedule is the most comfortable for you!
To a current student I would say this: Keep going! We are lucky to have such a great school system with a very supportive staff. Whether you believe that or not, just remind yourself that some students in the world don't even feel safe at their schools.. If your workload is ever too much, there is nothing wrong with taking a break for an hour or two and then finishing up your schoolwork for the day. Basically, make sure to utilize the various resources and options that HHSO provides for you.
What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation, I plan on pursuing a career in the field of psychology, because I've always been very interested in the human mind and why people do what they do. So, I definitely plan to go on to university or community college. I would absolutely love to obtain a PhD, but I know it will be a lot of work. I am confident that HHSO has taught me enough responsibility and drive to get to that goal!
