SHS Weekly Update

Two students in Mr. Miller's Welding III class attended the 2023 SkillsUSA District Welding Competition. Brett Endrusick from Windsor High took 2nd place in the competition and was only one point away from winning 1st place. Liam Wilson from Smithfield High was one point behind Brett.

Feb 11th – CAMP PERRY, OHIO – The Smithfield HS JROTC Rifle Team traveled to Port Clinton, Ohio, this week to compete in the Army JROTC Air Rifle Northeast Regional Championships at Camp Perry. Led by team captain, senior Caroline Lewton, the team placed 11th in the Northeast Region and 32nd in the Nation. Caroline Lewton and first-year athletes Lauren Read and Nymiar Towns all placed in the top 50 in the region and in the top 150 in the nation. During the two-day competition (60 shots each day) both Caroline Lewton and Nymiar Towns earned their gold marksmanship pins by shooting 515 or over out of a possible 600 points. The team has been the #1 AJROTC Team in Virginia since it began in the 2019-20 school year and has qualified for the regional competition every year.

“I am very proud of this team! They improved their team score from last year’s regional and met the one day elusive 3x20 score of 2000; 3 team members shot their personal best scores this week including two novice shooters (Read and Towns) who broke the 500 mark; and two earned their gold pins; I could not be prouder”, said Coach LTC (Ret) Peter Badoian.

Congratulations to our JROTC cadets who presented their Stop the Bleed presentation to the Smithfield Lions Club at the February meeting. The Smithfield Lions funded the first round of Stop the Bleed kits and provided training in 2018.

Dynasti Pierce was named 1st team all district AND the 2022-2023 Bay Rivers District Player of the Year for basketball!

The Smithfield Boys Basketball team ended the regular season 17-1. Way to go!

The company that handles senior recognition ads for the yearbook has extended its deadline! Parents now have until March 1st to purchase an ad for the 2023 yearbook. See the attached order form for more details.

Senior Dues: $75 (cash, check, or money order accepted)

• Dues should be paid by Friday, March 24

• Senior shirts will be ordered by April 3

Senior Social: Thursday, February 23, during Packer Block. Senior dues should be paid in order to participate.

Cap and Gown Delivery: Monday, March 27, and Friday, April 21

If you have not placed your cap and gown order on Jostens.com, please due so as soon as possible. If you would like to pay on site, feel free to bring $50 in cash on the dates listed above.

Western Tidewater Community Services Board (WTCSB) has created a Caregiver Support Group for the Caregivers and Parents of school age children in Smithfield. Please find below a link to the registration on the WTCSB website as well as a QR code for easy registration.
