A Note From Principal Jeff Brandt
As we wind down to the last month of the school year, first and foremost, I would like to thank our parents and guardians for their continued support of Dickinson High School and Dickinson Public Schools. Your support and communication makes a tremendous difference in the value of the education that we can provide to our students.
Over the course of the school year we have tried to put systems and processes in place that have made our school safer, enhanced the instructional capacities of our teachers, as well as the learning environment for our students, while also guaranteeing students receive high-quality instruction and opportunities, regardless of the class that they are in. We will continue to evaluate and assess how we do things and make changes where necessary.
Lastly, I hope you can encourage your students to finish the school year strong. I would also encourage you to reach out to our staff if you have concerns about your students. If there are issues that need to be resolved, there is still time. Please don’t wait until the last week of school when it may be too late!
Again, thank you for your continued support of our students, our staff, and Dickinson High School. We greatly appreciate your involvement!
Jeff Brandt
Principal, Dickinson High School

Stark County Teacher Of The Year
After being nominated for County Teacher of the Year, Mr. Conrad is now able to be considered for State Teacher of the Year. This Teacher will be named before Sept. 30, 2023.
Congratulations Mr. Conrad! Dickinson High School is so lucky to have you!
Homeless Care Package Project
The Homeless Project was spearheaded by the BMA Academy to bring awareness to the issues of the homeless in our area. Students participated in a lesson about the issue during SMORE Time in April. The lesson focused on common homelessness myths and how the problem is increasing, as well as what it looks like in our community. Students then were encouraged to participate in a drive to donate items to make care packages for those in need in our community, or to contribute funds that will be used to purchase items needed for these care packages.
In the first part of May we will ask for volunteers to assemble the packages from the items donated and purchased in order to delivery them to various groups by the end of the school year. So far we raised over $600 and are well on our way to our goal of 100 care packages.
Close Up Trip
Close Up is an exciting trip where you get to explore your nation’s capital city over the course of a week. You get the opportunity to meet many new people and visit monuments while discussing their relevance to our lives today. This year Lucas Shilman and Ericka Williams were able to take part in the Close Up Trip. They fundraised for all four years while at DHS and were able to raise enough money to cover the cost of their trip.
While there, the students were able to visit the Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Washington Monument, Vietnam War Memorial, WWII War Memorial, Korean War Memorial, White House, Capital, Senate Buildings, Arlington Cemetery, Mount Vernon, and the Statue of Liberty. “We made new friends and got to see many of the monuments and memorials in DC. Is was exciting to get a tour of our Capital building and get the opportunity to see our senator’s offices. It was a good experience!” Lucas said of the trip. Ericka stated “This trip showed me places I never imagined I would see. I only thought I would see these places in pictures and did not imagine I would ever be inside the Capital Building, see the Senate, the Statue of Liberty, the White House and so many other historical sites.”
If you are interested in more information or in joining Close Up at DHS, contact Mr.Ham. There are lots of fundraising opportunities to take advantage of throughout the year to help pay for your trip.
Tiny Tikes Pre School
The DHS Tiny Tikes Preschool has morning openings for the 2023-24 school year. Children must be 3 years old and toilet trained. High school students will encourage the children to develop social, emotional, and academic skills through creative and engaging activities. The fall session is from October to January. The spring session is from March to May. Please email Laura Tangen at ltangen@dpsnd.org for more information.
NAWIC Design Drafting Competition
Kate Enney won the Chapter and Regional NAWIC Design Drafting Competition. National Association of Women in Construction Design Drafting competition is a national competition where students are giving a design concept. Kate had to design a 10,000 SF Community Restorative Justice Center for at-risk youth. The class had to do research to figure out the best layout, due to the different services that are offered in the space, including a juvenile court, emergency housing, as well as community activity space.
March Mammal Madness
DHS biology team hosted a March Mammal Madness competition that is run by Arizona State. “March Mammal Madness" is an annual tournament of *simulated* combat competition among animals. Scientific literature is cited to substantiate likely outcomes as a probabilistic function of the two species' attributes within the battle environment. Attributes considered in calculating battle outcome include temperament, weaponry, armor, body mass, running speed, fight style, physiology, and motivation.” We had many students and staff at the high school participate and here are the winners!
Know Your State Competition
Agustin Zettel, senior at DHS placed first at the Know Your State competition held Tuesday, April 25, on the BSC campus. This is the third year that Gus has competed, and the second year in which he placed first among the 113 competitors from across North Dakota. Three other seniors from DHS also qualified to compete at the state competition: Elizabeth Keele, Joseaphine Thomas, and Katherine Welk. Their advisor is Mrs. Sheila Hlibichuk.
Senior Banquet
Senior Banquet will be held on May 5th at the DHS Main Gym starting at 6:00pm. There will be a guest speaker and a senior slide show. Blood Cords, (High) Honor Cords, National Guard Cords, Seal of Biliteracy Cords, and Students of Service Cords will also be presented to students at this time.
2023 Graduation
Graduation for the class of 2023 will be Sunday, May 28th. The ceremony will be held at the BAC at 1:00pm, weather permitting. Caps and gowns have arrived and were handed out on March 28th. If your student did not pick up their cap and gown, please have them stop by the front office.
Locking Doors
Beginning April 3rd, Dickinson High School will move towards having secured entrances
by making the following changes:
● All entrances, with the exception of one door in the Student Affairs/West entrance
entryway, will be locked throughout the school day.
● Because of our open campus, open lunch, and numerous buildings on campus, we will
unlock doors during class transitions and lunch.
● Students can still be dropped off before school and picked up after school from the East
Entrance, but doors will remain locked and students will not be allowed inside before 7:45.
● All visitors during the school day, with the exception of deliveries, must use the Students
Affairs/West entrance.
● Once inside the building, please check in at the main office.
In addition to securing our campus during the day, we will begin adhering to the building hours
listed in the student handbook. Unless a student is in an extra-curricular activity, students should
not be in the building before 7:45 am and after 4:00 pm. Students in the building outside of those
hours create a supervision and safety hazard. We understand this may create challenges for
families. However, we hope our families understand and appreciate that the safety and security
of DHS students and staff is our top priority.
