The Christmas season has arrived!! We are busy at school making memories with our students and celebrating the season with many traditions around Oakland. The hallways are decorated with lights, classrooms have Christmas trees decorated and caroling begins this week. It's such a great time to be a part of Oakland Heights. I wish you all the joy of the season as we draw school to a close for our Christmas break!!

The December word from Capturing Kids Hearts is Responsibility.

ENGAGE: 100 Family Memories 100 Family Memories. This December, challenge your family to list 100 family memories from the year, big and small. As memories come to mind, add them to the list. At the end of the month, share and reflect on these memories as a family. Celebrate the good ones, talk about the lessons you may have learned from the hard ones, and think about how you have grown this year.

EMPOWER: One Word Instead of writing a long list of resolutions or goals for the new year, ask each family member to focus on one word. Set aside time and ask each family member to share their word and why they chose it. Get creative and make a sign or decorate a notecard with this word to remind you.

EXCEL: Neighborhood Sunshine Walk Neighborhood Sunshine Walk. As a family, write a few notes of encouragement to uplift or affirm those in your community. Take a walk in your neighborhood or apartment building and leave these notes of encouragement on windshields, doors, or mailboxes to spread a little sunshine.

• Christmas caroling begins this Wednesday from 8:15-8:45. If you want to get into the Christmas spirit, this is a perfect way to do it!! Come join us if you can.
• The last day of school this month will be December 20. It will be a regular school day.
• Christmas parties will be in the afternoon on December 20. You are welcome to come celebrate with your child! If you bring treats for Christmas parties, please remember that they must be store bought and please stay away from anything with peanuts in it.
• School will resume on January 4th.
• Third grade Christmas Musical will be this coming Tuesday night at 6:30. Hope to see all of our third grade families there!!
