This Week at GLOBE
News & Notes | March 30, 2022
From the Executive Director
Dear GLOBE community,
Spring Break is almost upon us. Please take the time to relax, recharge and stay safe. I would like to remind our GLOBE community that Friday, April 1 is a normal school day. During the first week of school, following Spring Break, we are asking that masks be worn by students and staff, as a precautionary measure.
Georgia Milestones testing
Georgia law requires that all students in 3rd grade through 8th take the Georgia Milestones: End of Grade (EOG) testing. At GLOBE, this will take place from April 18 to 27. Georgia Milestones is designed to provide information about how well students are mastering the state adopted content standards. Importantly, they are designed to provide students with critical information about their own achievement and readiness for their next level of learning. Click here to read about the upcoming Georgia Milestones testing in more detail. Certain 8th grade students will also have to complete an additional algebra test, details of which can be viewed here.
Have a fabulous Spring Break and we look forward to welcoming our students back on Monday, April 11.
Sincerely,
Christi Elliott-Earby
Executive Director

Chess team wins 2nd place in the State Chess Tournament
The GLOBE Academy Lower Campus K-3 Chess Team finished in second place in the State Finals Tournament this past Saturday. It was a superb accomplishment and everyone on the team gained a better appreciation of the game of chess and the hard work required to win 2nd place in the state of Georgia.
Coach Thomas Harris did an excellent job, along with the rest of the coaching team, Chris Simons, Dennis Jones, and Marcel Salnave, in preparing the players for this annual event.
Congratulations to all the players on the team: Alexander Rabinal, Albert Li, Ethan Fine, Jake English, Ari Friedman, Amir Baraki, Aubrey Martin and Emma Dickman.
Save the date: GLOBE Day is April 23
Mark your calendar for a day of beautifying Lower Campus, celebrating international cultures, and enjoying the very best of the GLOBE community. Whether you come for an hour or stay all day (and into the evening for a Screen on the Green!), you won’t want to miss it. Stay tuned for more details and a full schedule of activities coming soon.
The final dress-down Thursday
We have one more day of $1 Dress down Thursdays tomorrow. Bring $1, wear what you want, and help the 8th graders have a great trip to Savannah!
Upper Campus
Please return your Chromebooks
We require all Chromebooks and chargers to be returned to the building PRIOR to Spring Break in order to begin preparing them for Milestones testing. All middle school students are required to turn their Chromebooks and chargers in NO LATER THAN Friday morning, April 1. Preferred return is Thursday, March 31. Please contact your student’s Homeroom teacher if you have any questions.
Morning Carpool
The return of Daylight Saving Time has also brought the return of some morning carpool mayhem. See below for some friendly reminders about morning drop off at Upper Campus. Let's remember CREST and maintain a safe and efficient morning carpool routine.
7:00am to 7:30am - Registered Before Care students
Parents dropping off students who are REGISTERED for Before Care may pull across the front driveway and drop at the double red doors facing Briarcliff Road.
7:30am to 8:00am - Carpool
Pull into the carpool line and follow it all the way around the back of the building to the gym doors. Carpool drop off begins at 7:30am. Please remain in your car and wait for staff to arrive before allowing students to disembark. Students should not be left unattended at the gym doors at any time.
Flagholders
Parents who have purchased carpool privileges at the annual auction may show their flag and pull across the front driveway.
Instrument drop off on Mondays
Parents of bass and double bass players may pull across the front driveway (but only on Monday mornings for instrument drop off).
Exiting Carpool
All parents are expected to exit the parking lot at the far driveway and turn RIGHT.
Late arrivals
If you arrive at/after 8:00am, please park your car in the parking lot and walk your student to the gate to sign them in tardy.
Admissions
We understand that plans can change. If your student’s plans to return to GLOBE have changed from “yes” to “no” between now and the start of the 2022 school year, please complete this form. Having an accurate count for the school year allows us to plan and budget appropriately or allows a student from our waiting list to fill the open spot.
Please note, if you applied your student in DeKalb County’s School Choice lottery, and if they earned a seat in a different school, DCSD will automatically pull their enrollment from GLOBE. If you do not wish to have your child pulled to the awarded School Choice school, you will need to notify GLOBE’s registrar via email: registrar@theglobeacademy.net
Annual Verification – If you received a notification from DCSD informing parents to complete the Annual Verification for 2022-23 School Year, please disregard the communication at this time. GLOBE will request families to complete this process in the summer months prior to the start of school.
Extracurricular Activities Directory, pre-approved by GLOBE parents
The Global Awareness PAC would like to create a directory of resources for extracurricular activities, in the different language tracks, that other parents at GLOBE have tried out and enjoyed. Please fill out this form with as many resources you may want to share, to enrich our list. Thank you!

Auction Registration is OPEN! Visit www.theglobeauction.com to secure your bid number. This year's Auction will be a two-part event beginning with a Silent Auction (April 29) open and free for all through mobile bidding and culminating with an in-person indoor/outdoor event (April 30) at Wild Heaven Brewery in Avondale Estates.
The Auction benefits all PTCC activities throughout the year including teacher appreciation, classroom resources, cultural events, International Fest, campus improvements, Science Night and more. In order to make this possible, we need donations! Know of someone with a wonderful vacation home? Have a favorite boutique or fitness studio in the area? No donation is too big or small.
We also need volunteers to make the auction a success. Email auction@theglobeacademy.net to volunteer to serve on the auction committee.

COVID Corner
COVID Communiqué
The latest COVID Communiqué, volume 12, can be viewed here.
Updated mask policy
On March 7, 2022, The GLOBE Academy updated its mask policy for all students. The full policy can be reviewed here. Although masks are not required for entry into the school building, if your child is showing signs and symptoms of COVID-19, please seek a negative COVID-19 test (rapid at-home or rapid/PCR at a testing location) before sending them back to school. Please also have them wear a mask at school until their symptoms improve.
Weekly COVID-19 testing
Viral Solutions will be back on campus again on Thursday, March 31, to provide all GLOBE students and staff with access to free rapid antigen testing. The positivity rates of each testing clinic can be found on tab 2 of the Data Dashboard. Results will be updated the day after each testing clinic occurs. If you would like to enroll your student in testing for the semester, you can fill out the consent form here. If you have questions about the testing process or how to receive your student's results, please read the FAQ flyer.
Vaccination survey
We would like to determine how many of our students are fully vaccinated. Understanding the vaccination coverage in our community will help us to make informed decisions about sporting events and meal time locations. To learn more and/or to notify us, click here.
