Celebrating 8th Graders at Palmer Junior Middle School on May 22nd
For the past three years, Palmer Junior Middle School has taken a refreshing approach to 8th-grade promotions. Instead of the traditional ceremonies, we host a student-centered celebration.
What Makes Our Celebration Special?
1. Live Televised Event: The entire celebration is broadcasted live on Facebook @ 10am, allowing families, friends, and the community to join in virtually. It's a moment of pride for everyone involved.
2. Individual Recognition: Each student's name is announced as they cross the stage. The spotlight shines on them, accompanied by uplifting music and a dazzling light show. It's a personal touch that makes every student feel valued.
3. Presidential and Honor Roll Awards: We recognize outstanding achievements. Whether it's academic excellence or exceptional leadership, these awards celebrate the best in our students.
4. Post-Event Festivities: After the formal part of the celebration, the fun continues! Students gather for a barbecue, dance, and a field day. It's a chance to unwind, celebrate friendships, and create lasting memories.

Migrant Ed
The Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District Migrant Education Program (MEP) provides services and resources for students and their families through the support of a federal grant. The MEP's goal is to ensure that all migrant students reach challenging academic standards and graduate with a high school diploma (or complete a GED) that prepares them for responsible citizenship, further learning, and productive employment.

OR your child(ren) traveled with you while you were logging and/or farming outside of the Mat-Su Borough School District (MSBSD) for 7 overnights or more (does not need to be consecutive).
If the answer is yes, your child(ren) may qualify for Migrant Education Services. All activities must meet economic necessity for program qualification. Please complete the Parent Request Form below.
Alaska Fentanyl Awareness Campaign
The drug landscape is dramatically different from even just a few years ago. Fentanyl is a deadly synthetic opioid that is 50 times more potent than heroin. According to CDC, preliminary data indicates that Alaska experienced the largest percent increase in drug overdose deaths of any state between 2022 and 2023, and that fentanyl-related overdose deaths among Alaskans increased by nearly 75 percent.
ALASKA BUSINESS WEEK FOR 7TH AND 8TH GRADE STUDENTS
Alaska Business Week (ABW) is a fun, intensive entrepreneurship experience for Alaska middle and high school students. ABW runs one-week programs teaching Alaskan students the basics of business, leadership, and entrepreneurship. ABW students are the creators and innovators for Alaska’s next generation of products and companies. Participants compete as teams in a dynamic business simulation with the guidance of adult mentors from the business community. After completing the program, students have a competitive edge on workplace readiness, college preparation, and overall life success. ABW gives participants the tools they will need to succeed after their high school graduation. Registration is free.
