A lot of communication went out this week! Permission slips, step-up days, spring assessments, oh my! Here's a copy of all the information you may need!

The federal government announced that the Pfizer vaccination is now available for children ages 12-15 and their family members (age 12 and up). We are pleased to share that we have partnered with Lombard School District 44, School District 45, and the Lombard Park District to provide our families with immediate access to the vaccine and we are grateful for this partnership. Through the leadership of Mr. Paul Friedrichs, executive director of the Lombard Park District, the COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic will be available on May 21, 2021 from 2pm to 8pm. The clinic will be held at the Madison Meadow Athletic Center in Lombard.

Dan De Chiara has been District 48's IT staff member for the last four years. He has been a vital and integral part in making sure that our technology is functioning for our students, teachers, and families! We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.

We are continuing our meal pick-up at Albright Middle School. Any District 48 family can pick up 5 days worth of meals (breakfast and lunch) at Albright Middle School at Door 2 on Tuesdays from 1:00-1:30 and 2:30-3:00.

Please make sure to call the office if your child is going to be absent from school whether in-person or virtually. In addition, please call the office at least 30 minutes before dismissal if your child's dismissal routine is changing. For example, if a child normally rides a bus, but needs to be picked up, please call the office at least 30 minutes before dismissal. If you do not call the office in that time frame, we cannot guarantee that your child will be taken off the bus in time.

Students will be taking mask breaks outside throughout the day. During these breaks, teachers will make sure that the students are maintaining 6 feet of social distance.

Please take your child's temperature and certify that your child is not experiencing any COVID symptoms. The policy and procedure is the same if anyone in your household is experiencing symptoms, that your child stays home as well. If you have any questions about whether your child can attend school or not, please contact the health office.

Salt Creek School District 48 is partnering with Oakbrook Terrace Park District to provide after-school care upon the return to a full day of learning. Check out the flyer below for more information. Please register for the program no later than WEDNESDAY for the following week.

Students would be bussed from school to the program.

Registration for the 2021-2022 school year is under way! Packets have been mailed to all district families with directions on how to register through Skyward for next year.

• Early bird fee of $25 off (each child) ends June 10th
• Items can be returned by mail, blue drop box, or by appointment only.
• Payments can be made on epay (saltcreek48.org), check or cash (exact only no change)

Preschool registration is open! If you have a child that is eligible for preschool, aged 3-5, please contact the office to set up a preschool screening and to start the registration progress.

Now is your chance to enroll in the Salt Creek District 48 instrumental music program. All interested third and fourth graders will be given an opportunity to join the band or orchestra program and aide in continuing the tradition of musical excellence in District 48.

Research tells us that students who undertake the study of a musical instrument will benefit themselves in a positive way. Music study has a powerful effect on the intellectual and creative development of children. One noted author, teacher and musician Don Campbell, has written a book on “The Mozart Effect” which describes how children listening to the music of Mozart have increased verbal, emotional, and special intelligence, plus improved concentration and memory. In band and orchestra students do not only listen to the music of Mozart, they also take an active role in performing his music!!

Through joining one of our performance organizations, your child will be offered the following: one lesson per week during the school day. The lesson will be offered during their general music class time to ensure a student does not miss any other classes.

Your child will be introduced to Band and Orchestra instruments throughout the month of April. During the next four weeks, the instruments will be demonstrated so they can hear the ranges and pitches for all band and orchestra instruments. Your child will have the opportunity to explore all the instruments. Following the instrument demonstrations, there will be an evening orientation for parents and students at a later date.

Take time to read all the registration materials and discuss with your child the importance of joining their school music program. There are many extra events and opportunities that are a part of a music program and you don’t want to miss out on the fun.

All students enrolled in Kindergarten, 2nd, and 6th grades are required to submit a dental exam form dated between 11/15/2019 and 05/15/2021 to the school by May 15th as mandated by the State of Illinois. Salt Creek School District 48 can withhold report cards for those students not in compliance with state requirements.

Please see the attached postcard regarding dental services provided by the Dupage County Health Dept. for those families that meet the income guidelines.

Please do not send your child to school if they are feeling any of the COVID19 symptoms. COVID symptoms include fever (100.4 or higher), new onset of moderate to severe headache, shortness of breath, new cough, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, new loss of sense of taste or smell, nausea, fatigue from unknown cause, muscle or body aches. We are using extreme caution to make sure that all of our students and staff are safe while at school. Your support is critical! We ask that any student that is experiencing a symptom of COVID19 to stay home and report the absence to the office. Our nursing staff will call you about next steps.

In addition, if one of your children is experiencing a COVID19 symptom, all of your children need to stay home.

If someone in the household has tested positive for COVID-19 or is identified as a close contact to someone that has tested positive please call the office. The nurse will follow-up to gather the information required by the health department, discuss next steps, and answer any questions you may have.
