Message from Mr. Nelson
Dear Gettys Family,
This Monday is a school holiday as we remember and celebrate the tremendous impact of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In addition to Dr. King's indelible contributions to the civil rights movement, he was also a strong advocate for the difference that education can make in our lives. One quote in particular embodies this--“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character–that is the goal of true education.” As we celebrate the legacy of Dr. King, I think it's important for us all to reflect on how fortunate we are to belong to a learning community at Gettys that puts students and their futures as the biggest priority. I'm grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside teachers and staff each day who care as much about our students and who they are becoming as young people as they do about the content we are teaching. Additionally, we are fortunate to serve in a community that values the impact that education has on the lives of our children. Thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
Jacob Nelson
Principal, Gettys Middle School
