Smiley Thoughts

PACK Guardians,

Do you know how to check your students grades/attendance or even email their teachers through our system? If not, please join us this Thursday at the Hubbard Media Center from 5-6pm (come and go) where we will help walk you through the process of signing up for the Parent Portal. We will have pizza on hand to help make it just a little easier on you! Here are some additional reminders:

Attendance/Truancy/Credit Denial letters - I know it is early in the year, but we already have some students who are accruing absences to the point that you will receive letters from the campus/district. Compulsory attendance is outlined in our Hubbard Guardian Handbook and is a requirement by the state of Texas. Students are required to be at school 90% of the time or they can face retention as well as you face truancy charges. Please work with the campus to communicate absences and get your students to school as much as possible.

HOMECOMING - I know it is a little ways off, but some people have asked about Homecoming week. That will be the week of October 9th-13th. There will be a 6th grade dance after school from 4-5:30pm and 7/8th 6-7:30pm. More information will come later but here is the theme for the week:

Monday - "Color out for the Huskies" 6th - Black, 7th - White, 8th - Orange

Tuesday - Crocodile Hunter - Wear Steve Irwin style clothes because its GATOR season!

Wednesday - Country vs. Country Club

Thursday - Tacky Tourist

Friday - Mums and Overalls (no bells/whistles on the mums)

We will have a homecoming parade on Tuesday where the football/cheer walk the campus and are cheered on by ALL students as opposed to only one grade level. Parents will have a designated location as well.

AVID - Students will be utilizing WICOR strategies everyday of the week during advisory. Students will gain agency of their learning and acquire organizational skills and academic language by following the advisory calendar.

***Repeat***

VIP Badges - Have you heard about the notorious VIP badges? If not, that is where we hand out badges to students who have all A's and B's, no more than two unexcused absences, and no discipline referrals. Those badges provide access to the coveted outside eating area BUT students must have their badge and scan it to get access. Please remind your student to keep their badge with them in their backpack if they want to enjoy this bonus treat!

Progress reports - Student progress report grades have been posted to the online Parent Portal. They will be posted again at 6 weeks and then we will send home paper report cards at the 9 week reporting date. Please get logged in and help us support your Husky!

CLUBS!!! - We want to get your Husky involved in something outside of the regular instructional day! We have lots of clubs starting up including Anime (Sept 19th), Bible Club (this Friday!), Chess Club, Spanish Club (Monday), and a Yearbook club. There are more that are possibly coming up as well! More communication to come with exact club dates, times, and locations.

Classes at Legacy - Do you have a 7th/8th grade male athlete in 1st/5th athletics or a 6th grade male in "pre-athletics" with Coach Dotson? If so, they practice at LEGACY High School each day, not Hubbard. We have had a couple parents come to pick up their children at Hubbard and were not aware of this. Please communicate with your child ahead of time regarding doctor appointments and where they are during that time.

Free and reduced lunch - Please either return your free and reduced lunch form or fill it out online: https://www.mealappnow.com/mantyl/splash.php The rollover deadline from last year is September 27th. After that time, students will not be given free lunch based on last year's qualifications.

Campus texts - If you are not receiving the campus text messages, please text “start” to 98900 to begin getting messages again.

6th grade social

This week I experienced my first ever 6th grade social. Let me tell you, it was high energy and pedal to the metal movement from our 6th graders. Today we had a great reflection about the event and how to make it better next time and for our 7th/8th grade socials later this year!

Book Buddies

All staff picked their favorite book at the beginning of the year. If a student selects that book then they are the "book buddy" and get to deliver the staff member a treat. My book was chosen this week!

As a reward for their ensemble team building activities, students got to throw a pie into the face of Ms. Hawkins! She was a good sport about it!

Tyler ISD construction

Mrs. Studinka reached out to Mr. Beddingfield and Mrs. Jones with Tyler ISD construction to come speak to her college and career classes regarding the new Hubbard building. They are an engineer and architect that are helping with the construction of the new Hubbard campus. The students had a lot of great questions for them!
